I like the idea of cycling at the gym and watching a movie.

Not so much while bench pressing.

Yep I take it to the gym. I put it in my locker and stream A2DP to my bluetooth headphones. At the end of my workout I jump on the treadmill and use my ipad for reading my PDF books, browsing the web, or if Im lazy I'll just fire up the ABC app.

The iPad is too big to be practical at the gym for me. Each piece of cardio equipment already has a TV screen anyway at mine.

Awesome idea! How far of a range can you get while using the headphones?

Yes, when I am on the exercise bike. One of the reasons I got the ipad.
I have wifi at my gym but I use my 4g Sprint overdrive which is faster and stream netfilx movies or use Air Video.

Never used mine at the gym yet but I do often use it while I am on my exercise bike at home. It sits nicely on the front panel and is great for passing the time. I don't tend to use the panel anyway as I always use a heart rate monitor and just keep glancing at the watch to check I am still in fat burning range as I am trying to lose weight. :)

Surprisingly I can be at the other end of the gym and no dropouts or static at all. It may also be the headphones, the Lubix NC1's, which are just tiny and stand up to weights and a heavy bag workout. I'd say a solid 50-75 feet if it's inside the locker, sometimes I use them with my iphone which I just put next to a window and I get much farther range that way.

I used mine on the elliptical machine in my apt. building. Streamed Netflix and got a workout. Score! Wouldn't take it to a regular gym though.

As a competition level runner I hit the treadmill pretty high (9-11mph) which usually maxes out the treadmills at the gym. It gets the machines pretty rockin' and I hold that pace for 30-40 minutes each time. I couldn't imagine an Ipad sitting in front of me waiting to be knocked off. Or for that matter touching it with my sweaty hands.

If I had an Ipad... I wouldn't take it to the gym. I would know better than that.

:D

This is exactly how I use my iPad, substituting treadmill for " bike". Time seems to fly.....

I have been mulling this one over myself. Not quite sure I like calling that much attention to myself, as the iPad obviously does right now.

Although, it would be nice to watch tv shows on it rather than an iPhone or iPod classic. :p

yep!

i take my ipad where ever i may go, this list includes the gym, grocery store, movies, and most other places in life that i may encounter.

i bring my macbook pro for long car trips PLUS the ipad in case the battery dies. then i have my ipod touch as a backup in case that battey goes too!

despite the name of this forum, the above is NOT a rumor and is actually fact!!

Yep sure do, the bigger screen helps when looking at a spreadsheet to see what weights/ sets/ exercises etc are next. Can't say I spend more than 5-10 minutes on the bike, I just use it to warm up.

It's handy to have the iPad for between sets too. I can FB, e mail, or what ever between sets.

I'm not a recreational gym user, I powerlift. So often there's a good 5-8 minute rest interval between heavy sets of squats or deadlifts. Bench pressing is different, it takes so little out of you that you don't need much recovery time.

So for me, the iPad definitely breaks up the monotony on some of my longer workouts (circa 3 1/2 hours), and is convenient for logging workouts etc

When iFitness releases the iPad version of their app, I plan to use it at the gym. But without multitasking, I may just stick with the iPhone at the gym because each time I want to change my music, it's a pain to have to close the workout app, change a song, then re-open it and find my place again. That's a lot of down time in the gym.

I have seen someone using one in the gym though.

I do the same thing on my Precor elliptical. I listen to music and read a book while working out. I could never read regular books on the elliptical, but I make the font bigger and it works great with the iPad. I also use a heart rate monitor, so it doesn't matter that I can't see the readout. The iPad fits perfectly in the book holder with the apple case on and folded back. It has been more motivating for me to use my iPad for working out.

We have metal lockers so that wouldn't work for me, plus most of the equipment is much further that 33 feet away from even the closest locker.

Yep but it stays in my locker as I carry it with me to work.

I'm always paranoid that someone will bust open my locker during my workout and Nick it. :D

I'm about to use mine on the exercise bike again to watch yesterday's episode of Dr Who on BBC iPlayer. :D

That would be cool but I could see myself dropping it. I was on the treadmill and listening to a book on my iphone. The iphone slipped hit the tread and flew off thank god there was only rug around the thread or it would of been pieces.

Not the gym, but I read it on the pot and in the bathtub... haven't figured out a way to take it in the shower yet. ;)
