I know in some businesses, they restrict the register (or computer) from allowing the item to ring up until the specified time. They may be able to "get you ready" before 6pm but they can't put it in the system until the appropriate time.

Not going to happen - the stores are supposed to remain closed until 6pm.

I never said that was what was going to happen. I was just saying that that is how some stores handle it. When I lived in North Carolina you couldn't buy alcohol on like... Sunday from 12:00am to 12:00pm or something stupid like that I think. The registers actually wouldn't let you ring it through. Often times you would have people waiting before noon to get their booze right when the time flipped over.

Mostly I was just providing an example and not a "this is how it will be done for sure".

4:30 they shut down the store and set up for the mob, give then 30 min to get ready, and that leaves 1 hour that they could sell early..... also there is the final employee prep. so 6pm is locked.

Sorry, I meant to be more polite when I said that. I was just trying to cut-off anybody that might read your post and start to argue that "it's possible that ATT will let you do it." It seems like I've been having trouble conveying my meaning these last couple of days...

No way

If any store out there dares to defy His Steveness, someone somewhere will blog about it, bragging they got an iPhone BEFORE 6:00 p.m. at such and such a store "LOL doesn't that ROCK check it out YEAH!" and one of the dozens of Apple employess who cruise the web 24/7 will see it and report it - then God help the store that hears from Apple legal.
