Will new iPad Pros release at WWDC?

The keynotes are 2 hours long. Unless the new iPad has some APIs they want devs to take advantage of, the time spent talking up new iPads is time they *should* be spending on new APIs. Therefore, my prosit is if Apple has the time to talk up new iPads, that meant they didn't have enough software stuff to talk about.

I think the last time they announced hardware was 2014 with a new Air.

Nobody has any idea what they will do. I was just saying I don't think Apple sits there and is like "Hey, we don't have enough to talk about, let's release a new iPad to fill time." Let's just wait and see, they can certainly introduce new hardware or go over 2 hours if they want. It's their keynote.

In fact they have gone over two hours a few times, it often differs between 2 hours and 2 hours 30 or more depending on what they have to announce so it is possible that they could go over that in order to announce some hardware.

This is indeed true. i think 2:30 is about as long as they've gone, and I don't see them getting to a 3-hour keynote.

Apple's focus, though, for the WWDC keynote is software. People -- not saying it's you two -- tend to think that WWDC is Christmas for Apple fans and wonder why they didn't announce everything.

Apple did not hold a March event, though, so it is possible a few things from there could trickle down.

I voted "no new iPads until Fall". What I think they WILL do iPad-wise is to announce some updates to iOS that will be primarily of benefit to iPad Pros. Maybe some of those updates will require new peripherals.
Perhaps a new Pencil, a completely new input device like the Surface wheel, maybe a new smart keyboard cover, smart trackpad or something.

TL;DR: Apple will announce things that will make the current Pro iPads more desirable.

Very true, I don't think they would do a 3 hour keynote, I do think Tim could do what he's done before, come on stage and skip the small updates on apples stores and stuff he usually does before announcing products a couple of times he's come on stage and said "we've got a lot to get through so I'll skip the usual updates, except to say everything is great" and they could just jump straight onto software followed by some hardware.

Plenty of time if they get right to it and limit the dumb demos

Well...if they are going to do something iPad centric with iOS 11, it would get me as a developer a lot more excited about it if I could get hands on with new hardware, knew exactly what the new specs and features would be to take advantage of the new OS capabilities.

On the other hand, I really can't see them releasing only the 10.5" without updating the 12.9" as well. Biggest screen always means flagship model for Apple, unfortunately, so I think it will be a case of both Pro models announced or none.

If Apple is dropping the mini, then the 9.7" Pro is probably a one off as well, and will be replaced by the 10.5" Pro. If the 10.5" model is a 364ppi version of the 12.9" model, and the mini is truly going the way of the dinosaur, it will be my next iPad. iPad mini-sized touch points and UI in the size and portability of the 9.7" iPad, and with the resolution and screen space of the 12.9" iPP. Might just be the best of all worlds...

I could be won over...especially if they give iOS and the developers the needed features to truly allow it to be a potential laptop replacement. (iWork and Office app parity with macOS/Windows versions!!!)

Dave, it's still the 40th anniversary of incorporation, plus they are opening Apple Park... I think they have plenty of topics to lose time with over their inactivity. :D

I was wrong. I admit it.

Did not think we would see the 10.5 here. Still felt like a long keynote, but I think they needed a lot of "we still love the Mac" stuff, the VR stuff is important to show they want to be in that space.

But I thought we would see no new hardware, and I was wrong.
