They have to find out who leaked it first. Hardly an easy task
I wouldn't be too sure about that, for a start they will know who has clearance to the code that was leaked, secondly the people who it was sent to know who it is.

So, with ALL of the leaks and soooooo much already known, does that mean people here won't watch/listen to the announcement tomorrow ? Yeah, I didn't think so either....
People who think leaks are intention really lack business sense. The leaks have been terrible for iPhone 7 sales. Tim Cook stressed the sales first half of this year has been flat as a result of the leaks.
The supply chain was already leaky enough. Apple could have leaked it to Kuo - someone trusted within the community. They didn't need to leak GM software. It has RAM information. Apple doesn't release that spec even after launch. All eyes were already on Apple in September. There was no need to generate further hype. Does Tesla need to leak the battery pack size of their Model 3 or Model Y?
From a communications perspective, this GM leak was a disaster. It coincided with the Equifax hack which makes some consumers question Apple's security infrastructure.
iPhone 7 sales were “disappointing” because the iPhone 7 was basically the second “S upgrade” of the iPhone 6. It wasn’t because of the leaks.
Think about it, why would someone be less likely to buy a product after being given information about it in advance of it’s release?
The only thing that leaks do is give the competition a few weeks notice on what Apple is up to. It’s not ideal but it’s hardly disastrous.
We all have theories, but I'll trust Tim Cook and his words during the previous earnings call regarding iPhone 7 sales. Apple executives know the fiduciary rule of conveying truthful, non-misleading information to investors. He could have answered with an uncertain response or attributed it to long replacement cycles as Apple has done so for the iPad.
Customers are definitely less likely to purchase a current generation iPhone when a future super product is on the horizon. We see huge anti-selling with Model 3 because many consumers believe it's a better vehicle than Model S.
Leaks like this give time for the competition to build a marketing response. These leaks serve no purpose as the hype machine was running 100% even before leaks.
I have a question I'm going to post here since I'm new to iphones. The rumors says the standard iPhone 8 will come with 2GB ram while the 8+ and X will come with 3. Will there be a significant difference in the performance of the phones because of the ram. If I'm not mistaken all the phones will have the new processor. How does this work with apple phones and long term performance?
Pretty sure Apple allows the leaks, and designated Min Chi Kuo or whatever that analyst as one of the official 'spouts' for its marketing strategy. Looking forward to some exciting 'one more thing' from Apple tomorrow. (it better not be animoji)
I misread your post. I thought that you wrote that iPhone 8/X sales would suffer due to the leaks. I’ll agree that iPhone 7 sales were slowed some by leaks, but that happens every year to some extent. Everyone knows that 1.) Apple releases a new iPhone every fall and 2.) previous models get a price reduction.

In the 7 and 7 plus (2 and 3 GB respectively), the extra RAM doesn’t give the 7 plus an overall performance advantage. It’s there because there are more pixels to push (bigger screen) and because of the heavier-duty image processing required by the dual-lense setup.
I hope that's the case. I initially was all in for the X edition. They are gonna have to really sell me on the face recognition tomorrow. I'm at a point in my life where I just want a phone that works. I also want a phone that will last me a couple years. I just don't want to get the 2GB version and regret it later.I misread your post. So to say that this year has been bad/good for leaks (depending on your opinion) would be a massive understatement. Prior to the release of the iPhone 4, a unit was leaked out showcasing an almost final build of the device. Steve Jobs jokingly addressed this in the event, stating "Stop me if you've seen this".
This year we have had multiple software leaks, cases, renders, hardware mockups etc. Do you think this will be addressed at the event tomorrow?
