I don't get that either. If an item has the same form factor, why not give all the choices you've got? That's one of the areas I think Apple tries to save money a little too much. It would be nice to have just a few methods of customizing a computer (or replacing a macbook cover that got a paint rub on it that can't be fixed).

The white phone is most definitely feminine. The white colour cannot be compared with the white of a Macbook. When you present a white Macbook, people can see that it is a computer. If you whip out a white iPhone, people will think it's your compact make-up kit or something...

If I find EDGE speeds totally unbearable on my new iPhone, this woman will upgrade to 16 gb, and probably pick up the white one. The 20,000 smudges on the black phone in the linked article sealed the deal for me.

i think white looks clean and different. since most people are gonna buy the stupid $199, i just wish they had a silver one like the plastic of an old G4 powermac.
Too funny, also the fact that I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, has no influence on my decision to go white. (Actually, my wife gets the white one!).

Yep I can't argue with this - that's why I'd buy a case for it at the same time. Which in some ways makes the iPhone colour issue a moot point.
Well, I don't consider myself to be feminine but I think the white iPhone looks fantastic. I'll probably want to go for that one. I also love the black one too.
I wasn't that keen on the white not so long ago but I agree with what other people have said - I thought this as soon as the white was introduced as a high end option. Apple marketed black as the high end but now it offers white. It's a good move on Apple's behalf for me. They've got their heads screwed on.
But then again, I'm thinking of just getting a plain old simple phone like a nokia classic, I have my own compact camera which is great and I might get a new touch or updated ipod classic when they come out... not sure yet. plenty of time to think it over

Even though I am a guy, I would still buy this white iPhone. Doesn't look feminine to me. Since when has white has become feminine?
white on a white background has a low contrast, looking soft, symbolizing a female touch...
i changed the background color of an advertisement picture for an improved contrast especially for the white one...

The black background looks best with the iPhones and gives them more "elegance".
The brown background gives a "stability" feeling with the iPhones.
The blue background gives a calm feeling.
And finally, the red background which makes the heart pump faster and will get more customers because it's more eye-catching than any other colors from these iPhone pictures.
The white one most definitely looks feminine. I don't know why, because iPods and iBooks/Macbooks never looked feminine to me, but the white iPhone just screams girl. I'll probably be going with a 16GB black one.
I really have to see both in person. I thought the whote one looked really bad when I first saw it but it has grown on me a lot, and I am a girl anyways so it really doesn't matter. I'm for sure getting a 16gb so I like the fact that the white is only for 16gb and fewer people will have them but I just don't want it looking cheap so I may stick with the black. Decisions, decisions!

i just made them to visualize how that a white iPhone would look like on diffrent backgrounds... because i couldn't help me finding the curve with its low contrast on a very bright led-lcd-screen... has nothing to do with sales strategy^^ but you're right, colors have an influence on our sense.
IMO, the White looks more masculine on the black background. i still wont buy that one though. Im a huge fan of ALL BLACK phones and have been waiting for Apple to announce a black iPhone.
Nah, the white isn't too feminine. If it was, the white macbooks would have failed a long time ago. I still prefer the brushed aluminum of the powerbooks/MPB and original iPhone

I would have thought for a lot of people the choice would be based on what matches other gadgets/computers/car etc they have, myself, I don't think either phone looks gender specific, seeing in person will undoubtedly reinforce/change ones opinion. I'm probably going to get black

I don't think it's girly at all. I actually prefer the black one but seeing how it'll smudge up easily, I'm actually thinking of the white one. Besides, if I'm going to need a case, it won't really matter. Speaking of, I really hope the back isn't that easy to scratch up. One of the things I love about my current iPhone is that I don't need to use a case.
