Design wise, yes.

USB-C wise, I doubt Apple will try to change the iPhone connector again, but you never now.

Personally as a user I like lightning better, feel more sturdy, but wouldn't mind changing everything to USB-C. My macbooks are USB-C already, so it would be nice to have consistency.

Form factor/usb-c wise.

They make a ton in lightning. If they adopt USBC that’s taking millions out of there pockets, why would they do that?

I hope they do but I don’t think it’s likely. They make a ton more on phone cables and accessories than iPad

I’m hoping Apple uses the new MacBook Air as inspiration for their upcoming iPhones.

TouchID, tweak a classic chassis, upgrade the internals and display. Apply this to an iPhone gives you... a next generation iPhone SE!

:apple: 8754F4EE-FEAC-4E58-A7EC-59DCB5CDEC4A.jpeg After watching the new ipad event, i think the next iphone will have a new ipad square design and everybody know that look like iphone 4 as well.

Thanks , my favorite iphone 4 model :)

So apple redesign every 5 yrs,
iphone 6 round edge = 2014,2015,2016,2017,2018,

2019 return to square

exited now

USB-c please :D

Unlikely. The new iPads Pro have a thick enough bezel around the display to allow Apple to hide USB-C hardware in a 5.9mm body, but on iPhones (even XR) the bezel is much thinner so the hardware would need to be sandwiched underneath the display (and backlight in the case of LCD devices like the XR).

The lightning port on the XR is already offset (closer to the back than the front of the phone), and knowing Apple's adversity to making things thicker, I don't see how they'd be able to fit USB-C hardware in that space.

I think it more likely iPhones will eventually not have any traditional ports, but instead perhaps a smart connector of some kind. For now the Lightning port's low profile keeps it going on the phones.

After seeing the new iPad Pro im getting excited for a return to the squared design of the 5 series mixed with the 4(glass back). Ive never been to happy with the curved edges of the 6 and up series phones.
The 5 Almost had it right but the glass wasnt completely flush(see image below). The iPhone 4 was the same with basically glass sticking out on all edges. It seems like apple can sit the glass completely flush under the glass now. Some images of the iPad Pro seem like the glass is slightly under the frame which is good as it wont ever touch a flat surface. I think its what an iPhone needs for really good properties for not breaking the glass. IF the glass is slightly under the frame on both sides breaking the glass will be greatly reduced. Especially with a stainless band as the bands seem to take drops really well and dont dent like the aluminum version.
Here are some pictures of the iPad and the iPhone 5 with the slightly raised glass.
Who wants a return to the iPhone 5/and 4 design instead of the curved design of now?
Also seems like you can stand the iPad up on its own for timer pictures.

Close up on the glass/edge. The glass seems to be slightly inside the frame which is an added protection benefit.
Last image is the iPad standing up on its own.

iPhone 5 style, XS size, no notch - I'd buy that.
you know what apple will do to keep sales coming in.
They release the redesign next year still with the notch. Following year a S model upgrade(still has notch). Following year(2021) same design with no notch.

I the think iPad serves a different purpose to attach to external monitors with USB-C, where the iPhone will rely on the lightning port, which I suspect will remain for 2019. Two different use cases for both products.

I hope not lol.. I think Apple will go fully wireless before they put usb-c on the iPhone.

Cant see that happening really. Lots of cars connect to their phones for work or for music. Not everyone uses bluetooth. It would make a ton of people pretty mad if they didnt include some sort of charging/connectivity.
Let alone getting rid of a port for no cables which would decrease how much money they make on damn cables. So nah they probably wont go fully wireless...

Yeah, I absolutely think so, sans the bezels. I think the bezels will be even smaller on future iPhones post-notch in a few years. The USB-C format I think Apple will begrudgingly accept as the standard, but it's hard to say with them. It would be ridiculous if Apple's products in the same family on iOS had different charging standards, though.

It would be great if we reach the point where all Apple products charge the same way, regardless of product line (Mac, iPhone, Watch, etc.) and I hope we get there at some point even if I don't hate the Lightning port. I just want product consistency.

I'd say no. USB-C seems likely but in terms of design it seems they want to make the iPad Pro appear more similar to the Macbook Pro visually to draw that "it's a computer" connection.

I am not sure if we will ever see the iPhone 4 style flat/block style phone again, but I do feel that we will get usb-c and my gut tells me the notch will be gone.
