Gone with a el-cheapo smart cover from ebay £5-6, has a hard shell at the back, works fine and not heavy. Don't think I could use it without some sort of stand.

Not at all. I think it weighs less than a pound for the silicon alone and maybe less than 2 total? Either way very portable and it is a very slick look and something about the feel of the silicone makes it perfect in the hand when I go portrait mode and remove the keyboard. Feels fantastic.

Pricey? Hell yes but this combo is beautiful and feels fantastic and offers the perfect amount of protection in my bag for my daily needs.

Highly recommended.

How much heavier is it now with the back case? I thought about adding it with the keyboard but might be too heavy.

The LTE iPad Pro with a Smart Keyboard and back case is 2 lbs. 10.8 oz. iPad with just the rear case is 1 lb. 15.2 oz.

... at least according to my scale. Either way, it certainly doesn't feel like that when I carry it around. Definitely still very portable.

Hummm…. it's interesting that so many are willing to have a front cover by forsaking a back cover and a back cover by forsaking a front cover.

(Cue the parting clouds, the light shinning from above and the voices of angels singing from the heavens)

Ummm, what if you could have both?

iPad Pro Folio

Protect the front, back and everything else. Plus you can't beat the smell and feel. :)

Of course we know we can have both. I've been using Smart Cases with all my previous iPads, they cover both the front and the back. The reason people are choosing to forego one or the other with the iPad Pro is that covering both sides make it too heavy.

That said, if Apple sold a leather Smart Case for the iPP, I'd probably consider it. But they don't. And the current Smart Cover plus poly back cover is heavier than what a leather Smart Case would be.

I never understood the too heavy argument about the front cover/silicon combo. Is it really THAT heavy??? It's less than 2 pounds is my understanding and that is very light for a device with the capabilities of the Pro. It feels excellent in the hand and is very portable.

To each their own though.

Without my silicone back and Smart Keyboard, my iPad Pro weighs 1 pound, 9 ounces. With them both attached, it weighs 2 pounds, 10.4 ounces. That is according to the kitchen scale I just used out of sheer curiosity. So, the full protection including a keyboard weighs about 1 pound, 1.4 ounces. Which admittedly is most of the weight of the iPad Pro itself, but I find it to be worth it for the protection and for the utility offered.

I just received this same case in white. Great product for the price. I'm usually an OE accessories person, but Apple has lost their mind with accessory pricing lately. $140 for a full iPad Pro protection scheme is asinine.
That Moko case developed fatal cracks in two corners after two weeks of just sitting on my IPP. I returned it to Amazon for a refund even though the time I spent boxing it up and taking it to the UPS drop off was not worth the $15 purchase price.

The Apple silicone case is so much better made and is much nicer to hold. Plus the Apple case can be used with either the Smart Cover or Smart Keyboard or on its own. I love being able to detach the Smart Keyboard and use the iPP with just the silicone case.

Understood. My lead-in was sort of tongue in cheek. I guess I didn't make it tongue in cheek enough. Just trying to lighten the mood a bit.

Yup, adding both the front and back case/cover adds 1 pound to the iPP's weight. I'm guessing even with just the Smart Cover rather than a Smart Keyboard, the combo would weigh close to 2 pounds. It doesn't make the iPP unmanageable, but the lighter the weight, the more maneuverable it is. Let's just say that for me, adding one cover/case keeps it below the line where it becomes awkward to handle the iPP, whereas adding both pushes it over that line. Of course, that line is different for everyone. So many people will find having both cover and case works well for them.

I would like it if apple had made a leather case for the ipad pro. I tried the apple silicon set up and it fit well but I just prefer leather. I like the pad and quill better than the mac-case folio because it does not cover the bezel and it is or at least seems lighter than the apple combo. The built on pencil holder on the mac case does look handy though

I have the silicone case with the Smart Keyboard, but I'm seriously thinking of returning them. I actually like the keyboard more than I thought I would, but $240 for both is absurd, especially with no way of storing the Pencil.

I'm tempted by the Zagg case, but I'm really concerned with the weight.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep an eye on it. If I have a problem, I guess I'll just bite the bullet and buy the Apple combo.

I now have the Apple combo - ASK and silicone case. I tried the Logitech Create and I felt it was too heavy. I had a Cover Buddy back case with the ASK. I like the almost transparent quality, but it started developing cracks in two of the corners. One of the nice things about the ASK is that I can fold it out of the way if all I am doing is reading, listening to music or watching a video. This makes it much more manageable on an airplane tray and other restricted areas.

Yes I do have a case. I have the Apple case and cover and like them. They are both a nice quality product so I don't feel bad about the cost although I did a double take when putting together my order for it and my iPP. I figure I don't replace my iPads often so will have all three for number of years to get usage out of them. I don't want my iPP scratched so wanted something on it and the additional weight doesn't bother me. I also don't use holding it while I'm standing up and not using a table or something to rest the device on.

The case does a great job protecting my iPP and feels nice in the hand holding. I like it wraps the three edges and the corners of the fourth. The cover is OK. I use my iPP landscape mode most of the time and the cover works well on a table in stand mode. I do find that when in bed or on the couch for example, I take it off most of the time in those situations and put it back on for transporting or storing. The cover comes off with a slight tug and I've wondered how it will hold up long term by taking it on and off so much -- thinking of the pulling on the fold joints. Guess time will tell. It is super easy to take off and put on though, while still locking on when in use. No fears of it falling off. And it snaps in place aligning with the case perfectly all the time.

I do find when using it the iPP in portrait mode, the cover is easy enough to just fold back and hold along with the case. Kind of enjoy the soft tactile feel of the inside cover which is then against your fingers. I guess in landscape mode because I like the home button on the right side of the iPP since I'm right-handed, the cover will fall down if not held in place or folded into a stand so that would be my gripe with it for kind of being in the way.

I do love the look of both on. Looked at others since getting mine as people post but ultimately none are without issues depending on how you use your device. While not 100% in love with the cover, no issues with the cover (although don't care for the white case with black logo).

I'm using a clear skin on mine like I do with all of my iOS devices. No added weight or bulk which is a bonus with the Pro, looks as good as it does nakit and keeps it scratch free. I always get AppleCare+ so not worried about dropping it and breaking it and I do keep a case on standby for when I know I'll need the occasional bit of extra protection.

I put one on my Air 2 on the day I got it and a year and a half later when I sold it before getting my Pro, it still looked as good as the day it went on.

Always used Zagg years ago but I've long since discovered the cheaper ones are at least as good so I use them now.

I have the Moko from Amazon and it is actually quite nice. I tried out the ASK for awhile and thought about keeping it so I ordered a couple options for back protection - the ESR back shell and a super nice titanium black skin. While I was waiting for those to come in, I had the chance to try the Zagg SlimBook and it is amazing, so I bought it. Not to change the subject but if anyone is looking for nearly the perfect keyboard case, the Zagg is it. A little heavy but extremely protective and versatile. Now I have these other two back protection options that I'm not using so if anyone is interested in them, let me know!

I've ordered a MoKo back cover - it's frosted plastic. Looks pretty good and according to the Amazon reviews will do the job admirably. At £6 I won't be expecting brilliant quality, but providing it protects it from the odd scratch and coming into contact with the gunk frequently found on desks at university I'll be happy.
