I use my Mac Pro for non-trivial tasks that involve a lot of documents or research... When I am in my home office.

I carry two laptops when I travel, a maxed out 15" 2011 MBP and a middle 2011 11" Air. The Air I use mostly on tray tables in planes and the MBP when I am at a desk (hotel, visiting an office). At home, the MBP is in my office and the Air is mostly next to the couch.

I have two iPads, one sits next to the couch and one next to the bed. I often do not travel with an iPad, but if I do, it's used to watch tv shows on the plane or play games. I don't really use it enough to justify the weight and space most trips, but if I really want to catch up on a tv show, I will take it.

This system seems to work well for me.

I use a mac pro at work and have a 17" MBP at home that I may sell to get an 11" air and a TBD.

When I used to do freelance work at home, I liked having a lot of muscle at my disposal, but now that I have a full-time job and do all of my production stuff at work, I've found that I need less and less muscle at home for my piddly projects.

Most of the time I'm just kicking back, watching some Conan and surfing the web at home these days. I sure do enjoy the mac pro at work, however.

It's nice to have different tools for different jobs.
