or is there something fixed in OS X Sierra / High Sierra?
The screenshot I posted is from High Sierra. Nothing has changed. I don't see Apple changing this any time soon. It just seems like one of those fundamental design choices about how people use their products that Apple simply isn't going to change.

I am not quite sure but it seems that the attachment problem with JPGs and PNGs are fixed in OSX Sierra.

At least in Outlook Mail for Windows mobile the attachments appears to be correct.

Wrong. Not in my experience. You have a hardware or software problem.

Wow, you sure swayed me.

I have two top of the line Macbook Pros and one Mac Pro that's older but still in great shape. It ran like pure **** on all of them.

No other software does. Houdini, Mari, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Designer, Unity, Xcode, Final Cut, Photoshop, After Effects and all the other software I use run just fine.

Outlook is a bloated buggy hog, simple as that. Defend it all you want but I and many others who have used it agree its pure trash.

Works great on my 2012 MBP

I would much prefer to be able to use Outlook...if only it read my contacts in iCloud

in a corporate environment and particularly if you have an exchange system then outlook 2016 is really the only game in town. I must say the later releases are far superior to 2011 which was around a long long time. Outlook 2016 is not without its bugs but on the plus side it does get updated often and has a good beta test program. I also use the outlook app for iOS and I must say for exchange systems it is better than the stock iOS mail app.

Going back to OP's question - how is syncing with Gmail?

What about syncing calendar with GCal? Can contacts sync via icloud to phone (or otherwise)?

The biggest problem I had with Outlook 2011 and before was that one couldn't sync easily to phone.

we are talking about iMessage here, not email/calendaring - its the fact that iMessage is NOT resoling mobile phone numbers in your contacts which do not have the country code in e.g. 07739111222 instead of +447739111222 (it doesn't matter where you contacts are - gmail, icloud etc.)

At my job we use Outlook for Windows but the only Mac user that I know of uses Outlook 2011 and seems to have no problems with the exchange system.

I do not like either of those and chose to use thunderbird on all my Macs.

I used to use Thunderbird. It has allot of features. However its a dead application that is not being updated.

true.

I put few onto thunderbird on windows too.

windows built in mail app is rubbish and keeps crashing (windows 10 more so)

indeed.

converted few customers to Mac as well as 10 they hated that much.

they all find osx loads easier to use.

all using Sierra/High Sierra
