I am one of those CRAZY people that don't like to plug and unplug my earphones each time I listen to music. Since I plan to use the iPad as my primary web browser & iPod, instead of my iPhone. I want to leave the earphones (with in-line remote) plugged in and inside my man purse while on the bus or walking around town. Which leaves my iPhone for calls, SMS, Jabber, and GPS Nav. That way, I won't need to upgrade to the 4th gen iphone or carry the Nano around too. Your thoughts?

Just yesterday I saw a guy walking down the street with ipod earbuds on listening to music... I look down and he is holding a huge iPad in his hand. He looked absolutely ridiculous.

I don't walk around town much, but I plan to do the same thing with my Temple Bag whenever I do.

No,

I've had since launch of wifi and never loaded or played a song on it.

will keep using iphone for that

I've got an small "essential" selection of albums ready for my iPad, but they're only going to be listened to when I'm static and using the iPad for the net/iBooks/apps usage.
No way I'd use it whilst walking around, I've an iPhone for that, and to echo another poster, iPod usage has only a small impact on battery life. Even thinking about it a little more, if I was wearing headphones I'd still rather use my iPhone so I knew when a call was coming in...

At first I thought about using my Touch or Nano for music, but then I decided I didn't want to carry around two devices with me, so the iPad is also my iPod, and the Touch and Nano are sitting unused in my desk drawer.

This could be a good opening for a parody of those old silhouette iPod commercials...

I bought the 64gig ipad and yes I do use it for music -- but only on airplanes when I'm too tired to switch from the ipad to my ipod or phone. I've got 32gigs of music on it.

It is heavy on the lap though if you are listening to music on an airplane, trying to fall asleep!

No because if I want to listen to music, I figure I'll have my Iphone nearby so I can just use that.

Saved me a lot of space to fill up for other things.

I have about 2Gb of music on my iPad as I don't usually use it to listen to music with. When I buy the new iPhone I will take all the music off my iPad for more space

You could carry it around like this guy:

Playing music on the iPhone has an incredibly small effect on the battery life. When I got my iPhone I couldn't believe it at first, you can barely notice it. I'd much rather play music from my iPhone than an iPad. The iPad is huge and not very easy to get out of the bag to change tunes etc.

+1 - I've always been very impressed with the battery life I get while listening to music all day.

ScrewTheDaisies...try this...

I have around 30 GB of music on it, but the iPod app frustrates me. It's sorting albums by release date, even though they're sorted alphabetically in iTunes and on my iPhone, and I can't figure out how to change that. It's also handling metadata differently than iTunes. Anyway, I do use it as an iPod around the house, but on the go I use my iPhone.

To match your iTunes playlist order to your iPad do the following:

1) Select and open the playlist on iTunes you what to manage.
2) Place the songs in the order you want (for example, alphabetically).
3) Press and hold the "Control" key on your keyboard.
4) Click on that playlist on the left hand side.
5) Select "Copy to Play Order".
6) Sync your iPad to your computer's iTunes.

That's it! Whenever you add or rearrange the song's order to a playlist on iTunes it's good idea to follow the procedure above. For an iPod I don't think it matters but for devices like Apple TV and the iPad it's necessary if you want the same order as in iTunes. If you don't do this you'll notice that all new songs will be listed on the bottom of your playlists. I hope this helps.

Trying to decide if I need more than 16gb. I don't plan to watch much movies on it so 16gb may be enough, but I do want to use it as an iPod so I can get rid of my Nano. I have a 32gb iPhone but I don't want to use that as my music player due to battery life.

Yes I do... need to get the Rockfish BT headset soon here.. this way I can have my iPad in my sling bag and control the music when I don't want to show off that I have an iPad on the DC Metro...

Nah. I just park my music on my iPhone. No need to take up unnecessary space on my iPad.

I do the same, I have no music on my iPad. The last time I tried to use it as a iPod I just about yanked it off my desk by accident. It's ackward for music compared to my iPhone.

He'll no. I have my shuffle, nano for my music this is my laptop. I take this everywhere with me. Sorryid rather fill it with movies books ect. My I touch is for games

Thanks, but I don't use playlists. When I want to listen to an album, I just go ahead and listen to that album. And it's the albums that are out of order.

I don't intend to use it as an iPod in the sense of listening to music on it while I walk or drive places. It's portable, but not that portable. But I will keep music on it and use the iPod app because I like to listen to music while I surf the net and do other things. Probably won't use the headphones all that often unless I'm somewhere like the library. But even though it won't be my primary iPod, I definitely will use the device for music sometimes. I always play my iPhone music while browsing with mobile Safari.

I have zero music on my iPad, it's all on my 3GS. I do have 4 radio apps though (RadioBox, Absolute, Tuner and Kiss Kube).
