Would a smaller screen mean a faster computer? All other specs being equal?
I couldn't disagree more - netbooks are fantastic for their intended market - as an almost "throw-away" computer, they can't be beaten.
I got a Dellmini9 about a week ago and put os x and mac office on it. For the purpose that I bought it for this thing can not be beat.
Netbooks can be awesome if they fit your needs...
Oh yes!
Heck I'd rather a 8.9'' one!
And a dual core atom inside
Netbooks are a FAD.
If Apple creates ANYTHING between the MacBook Air and the iPhone, it will be the long-awaited MacTablet.
I actually want the MacTablet to have a 13" screen so that the keyboard is a decent size. None of this ten, seven, or anything in between crap. Either make the keyboard usable with two hands or two thumbs.
Honestly, I think that the smallest I would go is 11" a la the viao TT and TZ. That's the smallest I think I would go for myself without a touchscreen.
BUT, work on getting rid of the bezel. The bezel on my 12" PowerBook is almost half the size of the Air's. And if they need that space for the keyboard, internals, etc. ... wait for it...
I think they should offer a 14" 1440x900 MBA with they same footprint, but smaller bezel!
yes? (I know they won't do it)
same screen size but reduced bezel size.
Second that! (Or maybe a 12")
Personally I'd like a 4:3 aspect ratio to increase the pixelcount (do the math and you'll see why). Not going to happen though.
I'd also like to have higher resolution. I have no problem reading small text. Tell me again, why are Apple working on making OS X resolution independent?
I'd rather just have a smaller footprint. A ton of space is wasted on the MBA with that ridiculous bezel. You could shave off perhaps .5" on each side just by restricting it a bit. Same goes for the regular macbook. I'm positive that they have the technology to do so.
If it didn't have the bezel it would be as small as the 12" PowerBook. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
