great topic tooi'm glad someoen gave me a chance to show off my icons.

After using Apple-shift-4 if you press the space bar it will highlight a given area and will only take a screen shot of the given area highlighted (i.e. the window or icon your cursor is over.)

This thread made me register for these forums, by the way.

I've got 12 Icons, including the Trash. No Finder, and my Dock is clear, with the MIP hack applied.

1. AIM (with no banners!) :D
2. BBEdit (I dunno, the stock one is so boring)
3. Safari
4. Frogblast (with The Cheat icon!)
5. Ircle (hidden)
6. Itunes
7. Entourage
8. Web Folder (Get it, with the spider? hehe, lame I know)
9. Downloads Folder
10. My MP3s Folder (The ones I need to rename and ID3 tag)
11. MP3s Folder
12. Trash

Why won't Entourage let me change it's icon? every other program (including other office icons) allow me to change them. I hate that damn icon. Is this more MS subterfuge?

AIM is one of the most disappointing apps i have tried on a mac. any chat program that makes iChat look good deserves a swift kick in the arse. two, actually. i was impressed that there was an ad remover though. i tried it out, and it still annoyed me to no end. he fxed the buddy list, but the chat boxes are WAY too bulky after using iChat, which is clean. it's like they forgot that macs put the menubar up top. that program is so clearly (poorly) ported from windows that it makes me cringe. lol, not to be inflammatory, but it still got to me, even with the ad remover. and you know, the chat windows in windows look fine. i just don't understand why they so stupidly put the icon up at the top and not inline with the other controls. phaugh!

if you right click on entourage and open the package contents, you can usually find the base icon and replace it with a new icon by saving that new icon as a .icns file and naming it the same thing as the original, which you can rename as <whatever it is called>2.icns. if you want to go through the trouble.

i like the consistency of the color, though i think you should go in and take some of the pixelation off the duck and adjust the colors so his eye whites are white and the blue is more consistent; it doesn't look as clean as the rest of the icons.

in my experience m$ apps are the weirdest to put new icons onto if its even possible. Sometimes i have to try a bunch of times and login/logout for them to work right .
I don't use entoruage so it wans't my concenr but i was able to do the rest.

Hmm, I never noticed that, since I have my dock small than it is in the picture.
I think it maybe also jpeg compression. I'll mess with it a little.

yes, it's the jpeg compression, that's exactly what it is. you can probably smooth it out pretty easily with photoshop's blur brush or something. but mostly i think you need to make the eyes white ;)

Well, I'm just fond of AIM because it allows me to do groups (Hello iChat, are you listening?), IM image transfer, file transfer, no banners (thanks to me! :p ) and buddy icons. That's all I want in a client, and so far, only the official AIM client offers these features. I turn off all the crap I don't need, like logging and news/stock tickers.

For me, AIM is fast, stable, and does what I want.

it's a shame about the groups thing, to be sure. however, iChat has astronomically superior support for buddy icons. and i frequently use it to send images to buddies both as files and via direct connection. it's as easy as drag-and-drop, lol, with the exception of firewall nasties, which is just as much of an AIM problem. iChat's main voids for me are decent away messaging (hint: how about auto-response?) and profile making (you can't do it, period)/viewing (where there is no scroll and you can't resize the box, plus half the links in profiles won't work). sorry for being OT guys.

i think many mac users simply take a great deal of pride in how their setup looks. i know i do. i spent hours and hours looking around for the coolest icons, even had to edit some to get my system to look like it does now; but this isn't the limit of it. i scrutinize my background folder and edit them all on top of choosing them very pickily. This is one reason i love OS X: it has an interface i can feel proud of!

put in the file because i never did earlier, methinks.
