Bluer? My new iPad screen is incredibly warm. iPad Air 2, now there's a screen that favors a cooler color scale.

Same here. So much so that's it's a bit jarring.

I've had some more time to use the new iPad and while I don't think it's quite as bad as it was, something about it ,ales it more difficult on my eyes than the Air 2 or 6S Plus.

If I were to nail it down, I'd say it's a combination of the warmer screen and the lack of a laminated display. When I put the tablet next to a 6S Plus, the phones IS easier to read. It's like the contrast is improved and it seems to be easier for my eyes to focus.

If I'm just using the iPad, the displays gap does t seem so apparent. It's when I put it next to my phone that I can see how much easier it is to read.

I'll give it a few more days...

I understand that a warmer temp should help, but even turning on night shift on the phone bothers me.

My eyes feel a little strained. I've tuned off the auto adjust for brightness and dialed it back some. With night shift on in the evening my eyes feel fine.

I do believe part of it is brightness issue. It is a bit better bring it down a bit.

But I think it is mainly due to bluer screen.

Still, I find it reading on it is more hard on eyes than air 1.

Yet your photo clearly shows the new iPad having warmer colors.

This whole thing is starting to sound like people who claim Wi-Fi makes them feel hot/dizzy/sick/astrologically incompatible.

Apple's next marketing campaign 'iPad Pro v2 - now with less eye strain"

Replaced with Pro 9.7", no more eye strain.

There's something going on with the new 2017 iPad. Even the store display model gave me trouble.

It would bother me even I the dark with no ambient light. I'm not sure what the problem was, but even after hours with the Pro, I have no problems.

The 2017 iPad 5 would bother me to the point I'd have to put it down after 30 minutes or risk a bad headache.

Just wondering, will a third-party matte screen protector help in this case?

I have used that on my iPad Air 1 and had no such issues; may be relevant here since the iPad Air 1 and the iPad 2017 have similar screens

I just tried in a store and something strange is definitely going on. I found it very hard to read on. The text was harder to read, for me.

I don't know if that's why my eyes burned or my head ached, but I can definitely say side by side with a Pro or an Air2 vs 2017...text, especially thin black text, on a white background was much, much easier to read on the laminated displays.

Being so much closer to the glass affects the contrast level, the viewing angle, the reflection.

The Pro model goes one step further with True Tone. For someone with ridiculously sensitive eyes, it's just one more thing to make life easier.

I had one macbook air 2011 that caused eye burning sensation after watching for 10 minutes.
After that I had numerous ipads and macbooks and they were fine.
Until I faced with these new iPads. I ordered two 32gb and 128gb WIFI versions.

They feel different than other iPads for my eyes. I feel eye straining after looking at them. I will see how it progress, but just wanted to know if anybody else is feeling eye strains.

Hi there,
My Apple ME279X/A iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi 16GB Silver has been updated a week ago (IOS 10.3.2) and has been causing eye and head ache since then. I cannot feel any pain using my Android mobile or any of my laptops/computers (Windows7, Fedora,etc.).
I also tried to change the size of the characters and later Night Shift (More Warm).. but none of them helped. Very strange. There is no workaround to this at this stage.

I really hope if a system update can change the situation and make iPad easier to read. I'm not feeling well with the screen as well, eye ache and headache. But it's right when I read with other screens(PC or android phone).

Turning on and adjusting "Reduce White Point" in accessibility helps immensely. That allows me to keep screen brightness where I naturally want it without the piercing feeling on my eyes.

I have experienced straining eyes with ALL my Apple devices since the stone age aka debut of the retina display came out. My eyes are dry, sore and in need of a vacation. Not even the lowest brightness and night shift repairs the straining. My eyes may reach its limit once I upgrade to iPad Pro. R.i.p

I think I have figured out what caused uncomfort to our eyes. It may be the scresn's acutance(Wikipedia explains what it is). This iPad is relatively higher than other products.

Higher acutance doesn't change contrast while displaying black font and white background. It makes you feel the content of the screen clearer, the edge of fonts sharper, but brings uneasy to some people as side effects.

I assume apple has tuned iPad's screen acutance high enough to cause uncomfort, but not high enough to be noticed.

And this problem can be solved with an update in theory. We may suggest apple to do this.

You are definitely correct as I have burning and dry eyes everytime I use my iPad pro 12.9 2015 cellular model

Could it be that the problems is due to cellular signals? Do people have issues with wifi model?

I am using wifi model. No problem at all.

Could screen protector also be a factor?

I believe the 12.9 Pro 2015’s not using PWM. That’s the big eye fatigue causer, ho it could be something else.

I’m using the 9.7” Pro 2016 without issues. As far as I know it’s not using PWM to control the backlight. Mine is also WiFi.

The problem I had was on the vanilla 9.7” 2017. The 2017’s got the extra space from glass to panel cause no luminated display. I’m not sure about PWM, but as it’s a cost cutting tablet, I would not be surprised if something’s wonky about it.

What about an iPhone X?

Did Anyone find a solution to this issue? Im on an 12.9 Ipad pro 2017 and it was really killing my eyes. After 20 minutes reading on the iPad I will get blurry vision. After doing research I went to settings reduce white point and that has helped some. A bit harder to read now, because it’s a little darker, but much less strain.

Perhaps see a doctor?

I also use this model and do use 25% reduce white point or “contrast.”

I’m sorry to say that I don’t have any more eye strain on that as I do on an iPhone XR or 2016? MacBook 13” non touch. Just your typical lit screen fatigue from those of us with photophobia issues.

I do have a blue light filter in my glasses and that helps. I prefer glasses over contacts because of this.

Few things.

1. Look into glasses with lenses that have a blue light filter. I can see the blue lights from headlights on cars. It’s distracting at first then not a problem for me.

2. Acuvue oasys now come in transitions. They’re photo chromatic and also filter blue light as well as more UV than most contacts. I have just gotten these, but have yet to try them!

3. Most importantly. Thera specs. I have a lot of issues under fluorescent lights. For a lot of people they get migraines were ice cream but for some of us we get severe anxiety panic attacks and make a D realization issue whereby I don’t feel connected with anything or anyone around me. The best way I can describe it is as if someone was blending my brain I can’t remember things and it just gets messed up kind a like this wall of text.

But they do help tremendously in the gym with lots of flights.

Good luck bud!!!

Edit. Forgot to add...

See about a neuro “ophthalmologist”.
