I'm in the landscape camp. I find it easier to hold and manage. I do a lot of surfing and video watching. A few games require the portrait mode, but that is really the only time I use it that way.
My partner on the other hand, uses his in portrait orientation all the time, and he isn't a video watcher. Mostly he surfs sites and plays games.

Only in iBooks. The tablet feels too tall for anything else when in portrait mode. Just my weird thing. I don't have to pinch and zoom in landscape.

Interesting. If I'm holding it (web surfing, reading a book, reading email, etc) I'm typically in portrait mode. If it is on a table and I'm typing a response, always in landscape. Most games are in landscape, movies in landscape. But if I'm just picking it up to check something (web, weather, stocks), it is in portrait.

I was sure before I bought it I would use it exclusively in landscape mode but that hasn't happened. With the exception of apps that force landscape I'm nearly always in portrait for reading whether it be Twitter or the news.

The only time I use it in landscape is watching movies/videos etc, and games or any apps that basically require it. Otherwise it's portrait, probably an 80/20 split of time.

I imagine when multi-tasking kicks in for me I'll prefer portrait even more, as I've found using the home button rather tedious when I am in landscape.

That's a point I forgot about. I think I may move to landscape when this happens as when holding it my thumb is around the area of the home button anyway. In portrait, I hold it from the base or side and my thumb doesn't stretch comfortably to reach the home button this way.

Landscape mode for almost everything except for Pocket Frogs and reading novels & magazines. I think it's because all day at work I have it propped on a bookstand that supports it better in landscape, so I've grown accustomed to it.

Small tidbit!

I use mine in landscape mode most of the time. So much that I lock the orientation and have it locked in landscape.
Ever since I started locking the orientation, battery life is increased dramatically.
Try it out.:apple:

For me, it depends on the situation. If I'm reading, it's in portrait; if I'm watching video, it's in landscape. Also, when I write down notes (penultimate), it's in portrait. When I use my laptop tray and case with stand, it's used in landscape. That's the beauty of it, you can use it either way.

Agree 100% (Especially with the "Randy Moss Returns and Go Vikings!" LOL

I do agree though. I love the option to be able to switch back and forth. Usually when web browsing I keep it in portrait mode. I do not see a use for the extra wide screen when browsing, it usually requires more scrolling. However... I will ONLY type with it in landscape. The official Apple case makes typing in landscape mode PERFECT. The same goes for watching any sort of video.

But to answer the question... Yes I do find portrait mode VERY useful. Any time I take the iPad out and am scrolling or looking at pictures or email, it is in portrait. I then switch it when I need to.

Most of my Ipad usage is landscape, but if I want to type something, I will often go portrait because I can thumb-type quite fast, like on the Iphone. Try it, you may be surprised how easy it is to type like that while gripping the Ipad on the sides.
