I get the feeling that neither Tim Cook of Jonathan Ive are asked, directly, what's up with the Mac Pro (or Mac Mini). For 1164 days we haven't had an update for the Mac Pro. Why hasn't a reporter asked Tim Cook or Ive what's the plan or where's the commitment to the platform?

Because the reporters are told in advance what questions they can ask and what to steer clear of. It’s just as celebs and politicians are often treated or it means no second interview. Ever.

I get a gut feeling that because the Mac Pro trashcan was so abysmally atrocious, they're still trying to do damage control of that fiasco. Moving the form factor back to an expandable chassis would be like "admitting they were wrong".

They just need to swallow their pride.
Apple has become a company that doesn't want to apologize for anything it does.

It's because "news" from mac sites is fake news. Everyone that has any stake in apl is covering for them.

I don't think that's necessarily true. The Mac Pro is a nitch product for apple and I would guess was never a big seller, but it is their flag ship system where they can show off their ability to innovate and create an amazing workstation. By what I understand the nMP was plaqued by manufacturing problems but it's seem like it sold fairly well. I know guys in the UK who were waiting 8-9 months for their system to ship.

I think the real problem is Tim Cook is more of a bean counter and doesnt really see the importance and relevance of such a powerful and expensive nitch computer, but others within apple do, hence someone convinced Cook to give the nMP a crack. I think that's why we got this new crazy version of the Mac Pro. Tim Cook needs to get out of the way of innovation of the Mac line up as a whole. Let the mac division do what they need to do to keep pushing the innovation of all of the Mac lineup. Its much more important to the long term success of apple then Tim Cook realizes. He is to short sighted with all of the apple iDevices!

As a very long time apple user of their hi-end computers I have to start thinking about the switch to a more powerful and upgradeable PC wether I like it or not!

Hello! Anyone listening?

I sent an email to Tim last April explaining why Apple needs to produce a new Mac Pro and I'm still waiting for his reply...

The demand for the nMP "was" high... during the initial release.

No one in their right mind would spend the kind of money they charge now for a nMP in 2017.

Everyone knows this.

There's also been multiple tech news outlets denouncing the Mac Pro as obsolete. I'm pretty sure Apple got a wind of those reports.

The other problem is that Apple no longer has a dedicated division for Mac-related tasks. They now have to cooperate with iOS teams. Problem is, iOS gets way more priority than the Mac does.

Tim Cook is an operations and logistics guy, not an innovator...
Apple desperately needs a visionary to be at the helm of the company.
Sad thing is I don't think there ever will be.

When Steve Jobs died, Tim Cook said Jobs left designs and ideas on the boards for the next 5 years. The nMP was probably one of those ideas that Steve and Jonathan Ive had been planning.

5 years is now up, and Tim Cook and Jonathan Ive don't have a clue what to do with the Mac Pro now.

People might have better luck sending emails to Daniel Riccio. He's the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, and he sits on Apple's BoD.

Apple has clearly lost interest in the professional market. I'm sure Tim has an answer for every question that's asked here, whether we like it or not is another question.

I guess the iPad Pro is the future of Apple and that's as good of a tool we'll get from now on?

What do you mean by that and where did you get your info to support it? If they only made one unit in total and five people wanted to buy it, in a comparative sense demand was massive and I know Apple are great at marketing and obfuscating detail.

I just posted this in another thread but will repost it here:

I just bought something at an Apple Store and went to pick it up. I spoke with a salesperson who said she's talked to a lot of people who were pretty pissed off about the lack of Mac Pro updates. Then she tried to sell me an iPad.

After the purchase I got an email from Apple asking me to take a survey about my experience. After rating the salesperson the survey went on to ask more than a few questions about whether the salesperson told me about the iPad, iPhone, etc. It also asked if I knew about iPhone trade in (or related?) program and so on.

It was ALL about iOS devices. Not even a single question about desktop computers.

RIP Mac Pro.

the lack of Mac Pro updates. Then she tried to sell me an iPad.

That's just sad! I bet the sales person didn't even know what a Mac Pro was.

The funny thing is a few years ago apple was trying to say that the PC/laptop era was over and that the iPad/tablet was going to replace them. Then reality set in and all you can do with an iPad/tablet is play games and watch movies and sales of the iPad/tablet declined below the PC market. So much for that nonsense panning out.

Now we are back to the drawing board with many, many mac users clamoring for new mac's! What the H*ll is apple waiting for?!?! I guess they want to leave money on the table and have many of us switch to a PC?!?!

When i worked at NBC universal the entire company had mid 2012 mac pro's in use for all of the employees. Most businesses and corporations that deal with creative development deploy the old mac pro towers. I imagine they still have them and are just upgrading them. If apple doesn't release an actual workstation with enough room to expand they will lose many high paying business customers. Apple earned quite a bit from enterprise customers which will go with windows workstations if they don't get their crap together. IT guys don't care about miniaturization and aesthetics they care about if it's practical in the long run. Mac pro 2013 was just trash..

Just want to add 3 things:

>Most games for iPad suck. Most of them are ****** pay to win games or "wait 15 minutes or pay 2 gems ( you only get games via in-app-purchase for 4,99 ofc ) to do X now"-grinder. Gaming on iPad is not fun compared to consoles or PC. Compare the quality of the steam library to the Appstore...

>The ipad has still problems to play back 1080p mkvs that are stored on my NAS. It still bugs me that my iPad Air 2 can't do stuff my 2008 Acer Laptop still can.

> Browsing the web on an ipad is relaxing but from time to time you find a website that has still bad support for mobile devices. Reading and browsing is way slower than on a "real" PC IMO.

I don't understand how peopple think a tablet can replace a professional workstation when opening and sorting documents is still pure pain.

The only real use that I have for my iPad is watching youtube and looking at my auctions on ebay while in bed...

Well that's not true. I've made 200k in the past 3 years with mine. It's was awesome at release. The actual Xeon cpu gains in the last 3 years have been minimal - 20% or so. It's the GPUs that are woefully outdated now.

Things they should have done.
Dual Xeon even if it's sacrificing a GPU
Thunderbolt 3
Upgradeable GPU - this SHOULD be upgradeable.

The storage issue is fine by me - fast working drive and then archive - much better working method.

Of course it will be updated. What do you think that they design all their other machines on? A windows machine? Nope.

Of course it's possible to have a faster PC I've got a 22 core quad 1080 machine for rendering 3D cost me 9k tho. Never use it tho to 'work' on. Windoze is freaking horrible.

Hey prowlmedia, whats your workflow and which renderer are you using? Are you doing your work on a mac and then networking to the PC for rendering?

I,and a lot of my colleagues in creative-video business will happily invest a unreasonable respectable amount on money for a new tower Mac Pro for our studio's.God damn my only requirement is that I will choose the hardware I load it on the basis of my needs.

Cinema 4d on the mac as my working machine. PC running team Render for physical c4d rendering or Octane for GPU. Bit more set up time. All done with network and I have the mac clone my work drive to the PC anyway on the fly.

The irony with the towers I. Most of place I freelanced... they had stock 4-8gb ram, 1 or 2 7200 HHDs - never all 4 or SSDs and a rubbish GPU.. they are never updated as management don't understand the benefits!!! And it's normally small studios or one man shops that will upgrade till they are full to the brim!

Not true at all. The best macpro can do about 1200 points in Cinebench(or even less than that with 1160 n most of the tests i've seen). The latest gen Xeons( E5 2699 v4) with 22 cores do 2800 points, so more than 150%(or more than 2 and a half times, so you can get the numbers)increase in the performance. So put your facts together. Since i do 3d graphics i moved to dual Xeons Windows workstations. I don't care about the OS if the hardware is more than 2 times slower. I just can't do my job. on Apple. They don't care because they are a mobile company now. If you do anything 3D/graphics related Apple is not where you need to put your money.
