Thanks for the comments.
I didn't know asking about something that wasn't included was considered whining.
I am waiting for the 3G version to come in at my local Best Buy (I refuse to buy it at the Apple Store).
Sure, that's would've been nice. But it's not a conspiracy theory, there are a lot of other things they could've done for just another $30 or so, ten of those and you've added $300. And sure, version 2.0 will have more features, whenever it comes out. That's how advancements in technology work. I think it's more Steve Jobs has a vision of how he, personally, wants to see the product. I frequently don't agree with him, but you can't say it's not coherent and focused. They could have made it $529 ($499 + $30 SD Card adapter now available) and Im sure it would have sold just the same but had it built in and you wouldn't have to worry about carrying one extra thing with you. As you can tell, I do wish it would have been included.
Honestly, I don't think it was about the price or the space inside the iPad (we have seen there is plenty of free space in there). I think it has more to do with leaving features out so there is something for the iPad 2.0 when that comes out. There are only so many things they can do...SD card slot, USB slot, and camera are really about the only physical things they can add to the iPad I would think.
(I refuse to buy it at the Apple Store).
And I can't wait for them to make it even thinner and lighter, leaving even less room for slots and jacks.
So, as to your question, no.
I think having a USB slot makes sense for that purpose, not necessarily a SD slot. There are still people w/ cameras that use Compact Flash, Sony Memory Sticks, etc, instead of SD. A USB slot to directly plug in the camera would work for all of those cameras. What I was thinking is that it would be useful to have your iPad with you out on the road and be able to stick the SD card in from you camera.
I would like to be able to connect my external hard drive to the iPad through the connector kit, maybe someday. However, I still really like my iPad and will just have to settle to loading things through iTunes.
&No, but I knew going in that I would use it for what it really is - a surfing device.
&I look at my iPad 3G as a Internet Appliance and am quite happy.
Didn't Jobs imply that the yPad was the some sort of netbook killer? I can appreciate his mad genius reputation, but this latest product doesn't have the portability or the all-in-one replacement features that the iPhone came with. It still can't replace anything in my tool chest which makes it rather hard to justify its size and price. Even a $2,000 Apple notebook is easier to justify than a $500 "surfing appliance" that still requires access to a conventional computer to manage and update its OS.I suppose it would be a nice touch if there was a USB slot, but its not the deal breaker like it would be on a laptop or desktop because that isn't what the iPad is trying to be.

Most posters here have a hatred of BB. May I ask what makes you have such a strong feeling about not buying it at an Apple Store (or online for that matter)?
