Taken from the dawg. :D

They're redefining the industry, bringing us into a new age of computing. They don't just do things to rip off the consumer and get tons of money.

I still have major doubts on this being the next iPhone.

First off, I don't get why people need tablets. Apple's iPhone provides Web/Movie/Music/Email/Apps/Cell wherever you go; plus it fits right in your pocket. You don't have to have a bunch of stuff around - its an all-in-one. Also, when watching movies on it, it's easy to hold (as opposed to a tablet device).

If you want more computing power, MacBooks offer that. If you're going to carry a tablet around, you can just easily carry a MacBook. And a MacBook will definitely be a lot more powerful than a tablet. Also, the MacBook will have a real keyboard, sound, screen, and won't be obsolete as fast a tablet would.

Third, a tablet from Apple will be expensive. Why would you spend $700 to get a sub-par computing experience? (Well, people into gimmicks will buy it). If it's subsidized through a carrier to a cheap price, who the hell wants to tackle ANOTHER data plan if you have an iPhone. You would be paying at least $50+ to have to devices that do internet when you would be only using one at a time. For some people, you would be paying for *real* internet at home, iPhone data, and Tablet data.

I still personally think tablets are way gimmicky -especially when an iPhone is capable of so much. And you just carry it in your pocket.

I really think people just get so hyped into new products before they come out that they don't think things through. This product will be as successful as the Apple TV, maybe bit more to iPod shuffle status.

The MacTablet idea does not appeal to me in the slightest. In fact, I'm afraid that the other products will not get proper attention they deserve once the tablet is released.

I really want to see Apple do something revolutionary, but maybe this move is what the company needs to make money so they can invest in more development, I don't know.

Apple is a bit beyond two guys in a garage. I think they're more than capable of having more than one product division, each with their own team. What you're stressing on is—for now—media buzz, and if actually released, Apple marketing. Neither of these have any real effect on actual product development taking place concurrently.

Apple's cash position is, well, ludicrously strong. They can pretty much afford to do anything they want, so that's not a problem, either. Whatever their product roadmap is, they're not sharing. Right at the moment, though, the product of the quarter is (or seems to be the rumored) iTab/Slate/Watchamacallit.

The attention publicly is what they want the public to focus on right now. Internally, other teams of Apple gnomes are hard at work on everything from the iPhone to displays to the Mac Pro to OSX and on. Other stuff is coming, don't fret. ;)

Tablets are the inevitable future of portables. The tablet form will come and stay until something reaaaaally exotic comes along. The laptop was a design compromise. So, Apple should really be working 100% on how to make compact and lighter portables in tablet form.

About time they took it seriously. It was only time. If the tablet doesn't become a major product in 2010, it will definitely be the majority of portables by 2020.
