Hey everybody,
I noticed back when the mini 7 dropped that many people talked about how they used their minis for consuming media, gaming, art, or in the cockpit. Others also said that the mini is too small for productivity. I use mine (Mini 6, Wi-fi+Cell,256Gb) for school everyday, generally for notes with the Pencil, writing papers, and anything else I can. This got me wondering if anyone else uses it for everyday productivity like that. If so, what all do you do?

Nope. Maybe email triage but that’s about it. It is a consumption device since for my use that is all that iPadOS is good for.

I have to do that too. Do you use a Mac for your productivity? I've been wondering if one would be a better choice than the iPad. If only there was a cellular Macbook...

I just bought an iPad Mini to replace my iPad Air (4th gen) mainly because I don't like taking notes on the bigger one. I know that sounds weird, but I like to hold the device while writing on it, and I find the bigger iPad too heavy. I also want to be able to watch videos in bed while laying on my back, and holding up the iPad Air sucks. It is heavy, and I honestly find it too big.

We'll see if I keep the mini or not. Getting my Pencil Pro in a couple days.

I think you'll like it for those purposes real well. I do both of those rather often, and my mini 6 does a great job. I personally think it's pretty close to the perfect size for 90% of things.

I do, but if I was still a student I think I would have a 12.9 and keyboard combo for writing papers and the Mini for taking to class with an Apple Pencil.

My Mini has Excel on it (sometimes I’m sent a file and you need Office to get it to display correctly, but I just can’t be bothered to get my laptop out for that.) Also Word as I do some writing for a hobby, but I think I would want a docked setup if I was doing actual work. I can type faster on my Mini at this point than anything else because I’m so used to using it for general surfing. Writing a letter/email on the Mini and just firing it off somehow makes it much less of a chore.

Since I got an OLED TV I use it less for consuming content but it is sometimes the better option depending on the picture format of the content.

Almost all of my banking is done on the Mini; I feel that’s more secure as I’m less likely to lose it than my phone that I’ve had a few near misses with.

I imagine that most of the stuff you might do on a regular iPad could very well be done on an iPad mini. Especially if you are typing, I suspect propping the iPad mini in portrait mode and pairing a bluetooth keyboard would work pretty well.

Connected to a Mac, I have been using my iPad Mini (previous model), along with a Mac Pencil, as a digital whiteboard for teaching college classes over the Skype. Very efficient combo.

What is a Mac Pencil? I honestly haven't heard of it before. And I honestly want to learn more about an Mac Pencil. Do you mean an Apple Pencil? I'm honestly confused.

I'm sure they mean Apple Pencil. Anyway, when extending/duplicating your Mac screen onto an iPad, you can use the Pencil to move the mouse cursor around. So you can effectively draw on your Mac, using the iPad.

Well I stand corrected. That is certainly a confusing name in this space.
Unfortunately they don't have eye pads.

Yo Imagine someone imagining being a Student again and dropping like what?2000€/$+? on tech.

The laptop I used for my engineering studies beginning back in 2010s was like 800€, my monthly income was like 700€ lol
Ive thrown away my handwritten notes on real paper like some weeks ago.

Occasionally, I use the iPad mini for work tasks. The mini, like any other current iPad, is very capable of work tasks. You have to be careful reading posts on the forum because if you aren’t careful, you will start believing the iPad is a consumption only device (for anyone) and that simply isn’t accurate.

I run my one-man medical writing business with a Mac Mini (M2 Pro) with two HP 27 screens, all on Office 365. Also have a MacBook Pro for travel to clients and an iPad mini, but the latter is superfluous for work and I use it mainly for entertainment.

I figured I might’ve had a Mini anyway and just had to buy the 13” Air + keyboard (or if money was tight, compromise on an 11” for both purposes.)

I did buy a netbook at the time as it was easier to carry around. iPad had only just come out so there was no pencil and having one didn’t make sense.

My co-worker bought the new iPad Mini last week. I see him basically holding it every moment of the day taking notes with it (using the Apple Pencil). He is up and about, walking around from location to location.

He isn’t sitting down while working, so the size and weight seems to be great for holding it with one hand and writing with the other.

Him using the iPad Mini constantly last week was enough to convince me to buy one as well. I was going to buy an iPad Air M2, but my co-worker’s actions have swayed me to get the iPad Mini instead (that and the $100 discount you can get on Amazon, Costco and probably other places). Amazon delivery soon (bought myself the purple one).

I’m a fourth year med student and I use my mini all the time on the wards. I run Canto, which is the iPad version of Epic, and I just read my lil presentations from my iPad, which has updated labs and other notes on it and it’s really helpful! I don’t like using paper (because i WILL lose it) and I like that the iPad has it all there. It’s also seen as more ~professional~ to use an iPad compared to doing the same thing on a phone
