Using an iPhone XR currently and it seems to be similar to my 7 Plus. However, in areas of no signal when I get back into coverage I notice it picks up the signal again much faster.

So weird!!

I am going to make them replace my phone again. Maybe that will trigger something in the system for apple to make changes or updates or maybe I’ll get a good one!’

Sounds like there are a lot more people that have good service rather than poor service with their new phones. If you purchase a new phone now the return window is longer - what do you have to lose?

I have two new phones right now...but they are outside of the return window. I don’t plan on purchasing another new one. I would try to get apple to return them if I had anything else to use. My x is already gone and my kid’s 6s is gone. Sigh.

Yeah that’s not good with nothing to go back to. I still had my 6S Plus which worked great. After returning the Maxes, I bought a new X from Best Buy and couldn’t be happier. It works perfectly and has none of the connectivity problems that my Maxes had.

Xs Max much BETTER than 8+ on Verizon.

Frequently drive from a rural location to a more rural location, 8+ would drop service a lot and interrupt music streaming, Xs Max rarely loses service. Xs Max also gets usable LTE speeds in an area where LTE barely used to work on the 8+.

Which phone are you using? Carrier?
[doublepost=1542602988][/doublepost]

Carrier?

T mobile. Not sure if 600mhz is active in my area but I do live in the metro Atlanta area so it may be possible and I have the XR which I hear can take advantage of it. Maybe that is it?

In the US, does anyone have equal reception with their iPhone XS, Max, or R? I have had two Max phone so far and they are almost unusable if I am not on WiFi. I would love to get most any phone if it will work better! I have started the phones fresh, done DFU, and switched sims and phone and it seems worse in the second phone. I have to cycle the cellular antenna on and off all of the tome to get getting data and I am always at 0-2 bars. This isn’t workable for a year. I have Att, but I have an 8 and out the sim in there and it has normal reception...so it is the phones vs the sim or otherwise.

I am on AT&T and on my Galaxy S9+ I get 4 or 5 bars of LTE at my house. I am now on an iPhone XR, as is my wife, and we both see only 1 bar at the house now. Big difference.

My XS is fine, sometimes I find I'm on 1 bar but it doesn't drop calls or have performance issues. I've noticed that iPhones tend to have fewer bars on AT&T than Androids that I have had previously.

I have Verizon and I’ve found the service level has increased compared to my 8+. I live in a slightly rural area, and the 8+ would constantly lose service, or refuse to load webpages when it said it had service. I haven’t had these issues nearly as much with the XS Max, and I’ve found the speeds are generally better with the Max as well

Xs max and switched from att to t mobile and no problems

Ported my older iPhone lines first and got better service. Tested xs max in low signal places and works just fine

Could be the towers in your area

It’s most likely some configuration issue

It’s this way everywhere I go!

For my Iphone XS, the cellular works well if I am in a strong signal area and I get to enjoy the fast speeds, but in other areas, it feels slow and the signal is not as good as my previous iphone 7. When it works, it is really good, but when it doesn't, it's frustrating...

I feel for you. Totally frustrating that it’s more than 2 months from launch date and they don’t have this fixed for all.

I'm a Sprint customer of almost 19 years and upgraded to the XS Max from the 7 plus and I can tell you that my reception is much better on this phone than my previous Iphone.

Now, my phone isn't always in "Sprint LTE" in certain areas but as an example, I'm in Eastern Ky visiting family for the Holidays as I type this and historically can tell you my phone NEVER worked here outside WIFI until now.

This XS Max is working perfectly and although it's piggybacking on other towers, I can surf the web, text, and make calls like never before. I may be in the low percentage of people who's having this excellent experience but that's absolutely what it is... an excellent experience.

I have had the 7plus, then went to the X, then the day after the release date I upgraded to the Xs plus. All three phones have had the same signal at my house of 2 bars sometimes going up to three, wifi has been pretty strong always getting the 5ghz. All phones have been on verizon. My wife has a 7, and one of my sons has a 6, and my other son has a iPhone 7 and they all have 2to 3 bars signal at our house.

I’m in the same boat as you are. I’m in North Jersey on Verizon and service is normally sketchy in my area. I’m watching the forums constantly hoping to hear some good news. I know not everyone is effected, but I’m not risking $1100 on a potential paperweight either. I’d be all about the Xr but I really like the telephoto lenses in the Xs series. So I’m watching and waiting like I’m sure lots of people are.
You have a 14 day return period so nothing to lose. Keep your current phone just in case.
[doublepost=1542899271][/doublepost]I bought and returned two XS Max’s for poor cellular connectivity then got a XS (decided MAX was too big) and all is well. I have read its difficult to manufacture the antennas and the yield is low so, maybe there are phones with marginal antennas that passed testing.

I’m on Verizon so there is a $35 restocking fee if I return the phone. Not to mention if I were to purchase a case and a screen protector like I normally do I’d be out that also. The size of the Max is what really interests me the most. I love my 8+ and I think an all screen phone that size would be fantastic, provided it works!

I went back to apple yesterday and they agreed to replace my phone again. They said that if that doesn’t fix it they can’t replace it again for the same issue without escalating the matter.

I tested the phone in the store environment and it held a signal better but strangely it had slower speeds than my phone when my
phone had a signal. Obviously testing a phone in the store is very limited. They left that new phone on hold for me for 5 days to give me time to decide. I lose my skin on the back of my phone again if I switch it out again. That would be totally worthwhile if it works better. Not sure what to do.

Went back to apple today and risked it and exchanged my phone for the one I tested yesterday. This phone is worlds better!!!!! So excited so far!
