Just this morning bought a prior gen for my M1 12.9 IPP, an open box white model from BB for $96 in "excellent' condition (which is always a hit or miss with BB's ratings). It arrives next Friday. If it works decently, I may consider moving to the M4 eventually paired with the keyboard. I use some iOS apps for light photo processing, but would like to see if it could replace my M1 MBA. If it is truly a pain using it, I will just return the keyboard. if it works well enough, perhaps moving to an 11 inch M4 with a keyboard might make for a nice portable model .

I’ve had the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 inch, and the iPad Pro 2018 and 2022 12.9 inch, and never bought any of the Apple keyboards available for them. When I updated to the M4 iPad Pro 13 inch I finally decided to give the Magic Keyboard a try. At first I thought I had made a mistake, but eventually realized I really liked it. For my use cases, the keyboard makes a difference.

I’ve had the Magic Keyboard 11 inch since the 1st came out. I’ve used them on my 11 inch gen 1 and 11 inch M1 iPad pros. Just recently upgraded to the 11 inch M4 IPP and have the updated Magic keyboard case for it as well.

For me, the Magic Keyboard cases were a game changer. The inclusion of an excellent trackpad transformed the way I use an iPad. I use my iPad in landscape mode with the MKC at least 80% of the time. Still though…for me, the iPad is a consumption device. It could never replace my 14 inch M3 pro MBP or M1 Ultra Studio….those are my “production” devices!

I have the MK for my 11” M4 iPP and like the others have said, it’s great but is rather heavy but manageable. My only gripe is that it’s a bit cramped which may be deciding factor over the 13” model which is also $50 more. A luxury tax I feel for those who picked up the 13” iPP.

I think it depends on what other devices you have - especially if you have a recent MacBook Air. I’ve had the MK on previous iPads and found it to be the nicest iPad typing experience by far.

However since I own a MBA, realistically I would use that over my iPad with a MK for any tasks involving typing/spreadsheets etc, so too often the MK stayed in a drawer. So since I upgraded my iPad to M4 11” I have settled for a cheaper keyboard case to use in a pinch or the *very* rare occasion I NEED to use an iPad/keyboard over a MBA.

I couldn't even justify the MK in terms of ‘travelling light’ as there’s barely any difference in weight and my MBA is thinner than the IPP+MK.

That said, the new design is really nice so I can totally see the appeal!
I pretty much replaced my MBA with an 11" iPP and MKB. Even with all the typing and spreadsheets I do for home and work, I still prefer using the iPad for them. Arguably, other than a few complaints of the OS, I think the iPP with MKB is just a better machine than my MacBook Air. I’m just one of those people who prefer iPadOS.

I want to order a new iPad 11” Air and the new Magic Keyboard, but the keyboard only comes in white. For those with a white keyboard, doesn’t it get dirty quickly? What do you use to key it clean?

I had it returned it for the logitech combo for my 11 inch pro m4
As a teacher the logitech is better for me since I can detach the keyboard and put it behind, or just flip it behind the ipad too.
For that price the MKB should’ve been able to do this.

I don't have the white keyboard, but I am using the older 2020 Magic Keyboard with my Air M3 (13"), and I have the black one there. I wish it were the white, because the black keys and trackpad show fingerprints VERY readily, and so it makes it look not so great pretty quickly.
