Open ports 5060, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403 for UDP and 5190, 5297, 5298 for TCP and UDP.
Never really 'got' ports etc. When I iChat with my sister in Africa I've tried inviting her to an audio chat and just get a message back saying no response would tampering with the above ports solve this? What harm could it do, do I have to open/close each time or will leaving them open leave me open to security issues?

What speed internet connection would both parties need to sustain audio or video chats??

only used ichat for a month but ever since i downloaded adium, i'll never need anything else.

Most people who use iChat do so for the A/V capabilities.

Something Adium doesn't yet have.

I mainly use Adium for MSN and sometimes Yahoo, but I do have an AOL account as well that I do use with iChat. Really the only reason I use iChat is because it's the one app that I've used that actually works great with webcams when chatting cross-platform. Everything else has been choppy and slow with the video.

i use iChat for aim. it works well. and it is the easiest/best i have ever used with video chatting. ive tried adium and fire but iChat is just the best. . . . plus, it looks good with the rest of OS X!!

I'm yet to know a single person that uses iChat. It's all MSN.

If you are found to be using AIM you'll get your ass slapped.

Everyone I know uses Messenger so no, never used iChat.

Me too... :p

Used it for a bit, but adium is sooo much nicer. Many more options too.

Like what??? I use Messenger 5.0 I have Adium as well but it seems complicated everytime I try to use it...

Tips and help will be thankfully accepted... ;)

I don't know anyone that uses MSN. Just try and slap my ass! :p

You can also use it to transfer large data files that won't email.

That'll likely improve with the upcoming integreation of libgaim 2.0.0 with Adium (and the rest of the Gaim-based IM programs out there).

Something to look forward to in the not-so-distant future :)

iChat is too cumbersome, bloated, and ugly to pass up Adium on a nice skin. Not too mention the million protocols and services it supports...

iChat is the opposite of everything you just said (well except for the ugly part, but that's only because of the brushed metal). I love adiumx too, but I like ichat a lot better. If ichat had msn support and tabbed browsing, I would never touch adiumx.

Nah, I've been using Adium for AIM connectivity and haven't looked back. I need it for Sametime anyway, so it works out well.

yeah i use iChat mostly. i like it lots better than Adium - it's alot slicker with the superfluous visual effects. :p

i did use MSN with iChat - but that doesn't support thier formatted text or user pictures. if it did support those then i'd use iChat 100% of the time.

right now i still use Adium to chat with my real world friends who use MSN. :(

Just one word: ADIUM

Jabber compatibility with MSN is not good, I mostly use msn, everyone I know uses MSN (Chile)
