I personally found giving up on iPad and going all-in (and back) to a mac was very liberating for my personal use cases. Even web browsing regularly felt hamstrung by the iPad. I use the iPad for travel and around the house for FaceTime and cooking in the kitchen.

Wanted to go all iPad, but for college, I picked up a MacBook just in case. Don't know if I'll run into some weird application somewhere down the line that won't work on iPadOS. I love my iPad Pro, but I find myself using the MacBook much more.

Been using an iPhone IPad only combo now for about 4 years. Got my Xbox for gaming and everything else is done between the other two. No issues here

13 pro max and 11” M1 Pro

Would I be correct in assuming that you do have access to a computer if you need it?

My mother-in-law uses iPhone/iPad Air combination, but also has a laptop in case she runs into something that combo can't manage, which is a rarity these days as she's retired.

I’m pretty settled on iPhone and iPad usage. Got the 12.9 with magic keyboard. Seeing as my work uses all windows machines there’s no benefit to having a Mac apart from working great with my current devices.

I couldn’t do it. I use my iPad 80% of the time, but I still need a computer as a backup because Apple insists on gimping iPadOS.

What I don’t get: lots of major software developers, including Microsoft, now have an Apple Silicon version of their software. Why can’t that stuff just be ported over to iOS? Why can’t we get Office for Mac also on iOS if there’s an Apple Silicon version already?

I still have a MacBook but all it gets used for is transferring music and videos on to the iPhone and iPad.
I wish apple would let us add music from an external device to the iPad but not expecting that anytime soon.

The device that you use sends its information to the server. It’s not like the server is inspecting your device, it’s just accepting the information that your device is offering.

So I would think it would be rather easy for an app or extension to send out different information.

Instead of telling the web server that you’re on an iPhone, you should be able to have it tell the web server that you’re on a desktop computer.

Yes, bought a 2021 12.9” iPad Pro + MK + Apple Pencil two months ago and have had no need for my MacBook Pro since.

I used my iPad mostly with a keyboard and now that the MBA M1 exists I reach for it almost every time. What drew me to the iPad originally was battery life and no fans. The battery life on the 12.9 is pretty bad now and it's actually heavier than an M1 Air. And it's less useful (for me anyway). That said, I wish I had got the 11" instead.

I am moving this direction at home. I have a MacBook Pro that is currently collecting dust. It only get used when I need windowing or want to sit at my desk. Otherwise it is iPhone and iPad.

At work however, I cannot get by with iPad OS. The #1 issue for me is the lack of windowing. If the iPad had windowing (along with proper external monitor support), I could probably make it work, but even then many things would be harder.

I was moving in this direction, doing a lot with iPad and iPhone. I had a MacBook Air 2011 but used it very little, I found that the iPad provided nearly the same size screen and was a lot more convenient in charging it once a day and having instant-on.

But I decided to buy a new bureau and an iMac because for some things a big screen, an up-to-date os, and a regular keyboard are a very good combination.

I have the same set-up☝️and I use the iPad Pro and iPhone 90% of the time. I use Jump to connect to the Mini to access a few Mac apps.

You don’t find the MK way too heavy?

I always use it resting on something, so no. I’m coming from the 4lb 2018 15” MBP, so it’s lighter when I’m carrying it around anyways. I’m not one to care/complain much about heavy devices though. I’m a big guy and 90% of my exercise is lifting weights, so weight doesn’t matter to me much.

Likely will always have a desktop. Just bought a Mac Mini M1. iPads just don't have the longevity of Mac desktops. My 2009 Mac Mini is still fully functional and has good performance. The iPad from the same time period (iPad 1 released 2010) is now really totally useless.

You got it. As long as Apple seems meaningful revenue from customers buying both a Mac and an iPad, we will not get a full featured laptop replacement iPad. Sad but true.
