I really do enjoy my iPhone 5 a lot. I have add it since Oct. and I jailbroke it this month. I did enjoy it before I JB broke it, but I was really considering the nexus 4. I like to change things around every couple of months and make my phone look different. The iPhone right out of the box does not really give the user the ability to do this. After I JB my iPhone 5 things changed. I can make tweaks and add things things I think Apple should add. I have had several nexus devices and liked them a lot as well, but having the best of both worlds has been great. There are things about the iPhone that I like better than what android offers, so being able to make my iPhone more open keeps me around.

So my question is does being able to JB hurt android because people like me might decide to stay with the iPhone? I think JBing makes the iPhone a much more useable device for me, and I have to imagine that for 7 million that have JB their iphones that might be the case as well. Has anyone else made the decision to stay with the iPhone after you could JB it?

Apple already patched the evasion exploit with the new iOS update. I left iPhone because I am fed up with this cat and mouse game with jailbreaking. It will only be harder and harder to get jailbreaks.

Yea that was the beta 6.1.3 update that has not come out yet. I am waiting to see if these keeps up then I am gone as well. I hate it cause I like the iPhone, but I would miss the tweaks I can make on my android if I did not have a JB. What phone do you have now?

No.

Very small minority of iPhone users Jailbreak...

Those that 'require' features such as widgets / file-managers / themes - generally would have educated themselves enough to buy an Android device in the first place.

And I still don't quite understand why you needed another thread that treds very similar water - after your last was directed to the evasi0n thread already once today.

Sure, but a lot of people like what iOS has to offer plus having the option to customize it. I am just trying to be objective. If I had not bought the iPhone 5 I would still be using a galaxy nexus. I still prefer the nexus phone over all more than the iPhone, but since I paid for the iPhone 5 I am getting as much out of it as I can.

How is this the same? The last one was about Apple destroying the JB. This one is asking if JB hurts android.

You bought an iPhone 5 before the jailbreak was available and it was never 'guaranteed' to get a jailbreak.

Therefore the jailbreak only acts as an 'extra' that can be taken away as quickly as it came.

If you want to keep those extra features don't update to 6.1.3 (you do have free will not to) or alternatively if you don't want to have to choose OS updates over customisability, then go buy and android device.

Maybe the jailbreak was all you needed to show you that iOS isn't for you. You can not expect Apple to support the jailbreaking community or allow it's devices to be jailbroken.

The thread treads the same water as your other thread, albeit at least better written grammatically this time round. All these things have been discussed to death within the existing thread.

Ok so why did you feel the need to post on this? If these has been discussed so many times then please direct me to a thread were people are talking about android losing people because of jailbreaking.

Why are you Apple die hards so freakin rude? It is not like Apple is your family. Just because someone does not love them as much as you, or thinks their phones has some things wrong with it does not mean you come on here and tell them rudely how they are wrong. Why waste your time?

Simple answer is .... jailbreak is not the same.

Maybe jailbreaking just made me like the iphone better. Who's to say I have to upgrade to iOS 6.1.3 I can keep my iphone 5 jailbroken.

1. you don't need to up vote your own post to make it appear you have more validity to your inane comment & opinions.

2. I have had in the last 24 months a SGS2, HTC Sensation, HTC One X, HTC 8X, Blackberry Bold 9900, Blackberry Torch 9810.... So I'm an Apple die hard ? Yeah maybe educate yourself on others backgrounds before you go into school yard name calling.

In your opinion it did. Good for you.

As for "Who's to say I have to upgrade to iOS 6.1.3 I can keep my iphone 5 jailbroken."

I think when I said
If you want to keep those extra features don't update to 6.1.3 (you do have free will not to)
I pretty much already stated that..

I did not name call thank you. Also how in the world would I know your phone history? From you post it sure sounds like you are taking up for Apple.

This all does take away from the fact that your first post was rude followed by the rest of them. If you do not think this thread is need then why are you posting. No one put a gun to your head and forced you to.

The point is inane. Why would anyone with an Android device feel the need to move from their device to another simply because a hack as been made available that allows the other device to operate in the same manner as their current... A hack that they would most likely not know about in the first instance becayse they are not using an iPhone.

Seriously your whole point is utterly inane. If you can't see that then fair enough. Good luck with that!

----------

No I'm talking common sense. Someone has to.

No my point was I used 3 android phone before I bought the iphone 5. I wanted to try iOS out once again and see if I liked it. As I stated in my original post I like iOS before the JB, but got bored with it. When the JB came out it made me want to keep my iphone and not go back to android for now.

If you are so worried about me knowing your phone history why don't you read my first post? I said would this keep people from going back to android. If you don't understand that mean they are using an iphone currently.

Then you have already answered your own question.

You moved from Android to iOS and a jailbreak was not available at that time. Therefore the jailbreak did little to harm 'Android' as you had already switched to iOS from it.

Yes, but I was thinking of going back to android before the jailbreak came out. Read my OP before you post again.

While I somewhat agree with the other poster that these threads are a bit inane and somewhat beat to death, I see your point and would state it a different way....

If the jailbreak no longer existed, I would argue that quite a few of those 7 million would in fact make the switch to Android. While this makes absolutely no sense to me, I have no doubt there are those who would clamor for the customization and switch.

So while I don't believe the jailbreak community HURTS Android (7 million isn't a significant number for either platform), I concur that at least some of those who jailbreak would switch to Android if the JB were no longer available.

Now the number of people who would make the switch is insignificant - but I believe I've answered your question.

You like iOS right? That is why this makes no sense to you.

You don't think 7 million people is a lot? I am not saying 7 million is killing android, but they could use as many people they can get. Just like Apple. 7 million people buying phones on contract that is a crap ton of money right? Think about 7 million x $200 a phone.

You're thinking of 7 million in a vacuum.....

This about 7 million relative to each platform's base.....that 7 million iOS devices jailbroken is roughly 2.3% of all iOS devices currently in use....

Put it this way - Apple sells that many smartphones in a launch week.....1 week.

Android is adding 100 million new customers a year worldwide....

7 million is a drop in the bucket.

And for the record, I use a Nexus 4 as my primary device. And yes, I like iOS. What doesn't make sense to me is if customization is so important in the first place, why those wouldn't just buy Android sooner....

Ok so you don't think 7 million is a lot that is cool. That 7 million in a launch weekend is a lot of money. Anyways move on from that.

So you use a nexus 4 why can't you understand that people jailbreak iPhones to be more custom? You like your nexus 4, on that phone you can pretty much make it look how you want it to. You can't do that with iOS without a jailbreak. Why is that hard to understand? Or I guess what don't you understand?

I couldn't care less about customizing. I bought a Nexus 4 to try out Android and because i was carrying around 2 iPhones (personal and work) and that seemed redundant - figured I'd put that second phone line to good use by trying something new.

I like tech and am curious about each of the OSes out there. Even so, my preference was and still is iOS because of the way I use a smartphone.....

My thing is - if you want an Apple device with iOS - knowing its limitations - and then cry about a jailbreak not coming or being patched - why didn't said purchaser simply buy an Android device in the first place? The customization is what you want....Android delivers. Why go through iOS to get there?

All people see are limitations in iOS - but I'm convinced its the people who don't understand the philosophies behind each platform. Sure, there are some things Apple could (and I hope does) change going forward. But the same goes for Android.

Apple will NEVER open iOS up - that's not part of the philosophy. Which I am personally glad for. Otherwise, it'd be like Android - which already exists.

Ok I understand you more. So I for one like a few things about android and a few thing about iOS. When a jailbreak is working then I can get the best of both worlds. That is why I like using the iphone at the moment. Does that clear up any of the miss understanding?

Alright - well I suppose to wrap up the thread's topic, I really don't think JBing hurts Android at all.....and if it were to go away I don't think it would hurt Apple either.

I've had multiple iPhones and Android phones and I'm currently on the iPhone 5. Some of the things that I did miss from Android (custom launchers, better sms, quick toggles, widgets, etc) are now available to me via jailbreak. Does having a jailbroken iPhone stop me from going back to Android? No. Will it delay it a bit? Probably.
