I LOVE JUST SITTING DOWN AND WATCHING A GOOD HD 720P/1080P STREAMED FROM MY MBP OVER TO MY ATV SURE IS A LOAD OF HDD SPACE BUT ITS IS SO WORTH IT I BUY WESTERN DIGITAL TERABYTES AT A TIME BUT I NEED A THUNDERBOLT IT WOULD HELP SO MUCH
Time to go outside and play, your tv time is up for today.

Seriously, if anybody is actually bothered by dvd quality there is something wrong with their brain.

1st world problems I suppose
Why is this the new clever way to say "It doesn't matter"? So obnoxious.

It depends on the quality of your tv set.

Ironically the better the TV the better you want you content, but the better its capacity for upscaling.

I have a new Sony Bravia TV that does a remarkable job on the upscaling. My parents have an older sony bravia and the difference between the SD content on both is quite noticeable.

I do enjoy HD video and audio- some HD soundtracks are just flat out exceptional. But only on newer movies I have found this to be true.
Agree, if you have a nice tv (there can be a big difference between a hd tv that cost less than a grand and say something like Sony's XBR line) it's well worth it. I pretty much do everything in BR/HD, with some movies just normal DVD and I can easily tell a difference. If you can't, you either have a low quality tv or it's not calibrated correctly. Action movies or anything with great effects or animation HD all the way, otherwise something like drama I don't really care if it's dvd quality.

If you have a cheaper lcd/plasma, and you've never calibrated it, just buy the disc (like 30 bucks on Amazon) and do it, night and day difference. I thought I had my tv calibrated correctly by eye, but I saw a pretty noticeable difference after trying a calibration disc.

Yup, DVD looks great to me. I know I'm watching them as best as they're going to get (some nice upscaling on my Sony PVR+DVD player) and it's perfect for me.
I don't like the quality of heavily compressed HD on download stores and I'd much rather get the Bluray.

But for now - DVD. I don't sit close enough to my TV.

All of a sudden it's the new big thing to say on the internets.
