Hoping to find an answer to this without actually spending the manual time doing it, only then to find out it doesn't work.

I currently have ios15.3. I want to uninstall this update and I know you can't do that in the settings. So I'm wondering if you can do it by factory resetting the ipad (wiping it) and then not restoring the ipad from your icloud backup. But just by manually re-installing all your apps and settings manually again one by one and turning off auto updates and ignoring them.

I have mini 6, not sure which ios version it comes with out of the box.

A standard factory reset is going to just wipe out all your apps and logins and everything else. It is not going to downgrade the iOS version back to the original one it had out of the box.

Thanks for the answer, saved me a bunch of time trying it. That's really unfortunate to hear that there is no way to go back to the version that came out of the box.

What is the reason you are wanting to downgrade? Are you having issues with certain apps? Maybe we can help you resolve whatever issues you are having.

There is actually a way to roll it back to the original version as long as Apple is still signing that version (I think) but there are other members here that are far better resources on that kind of thing than me. The bravest thing I've ever done to an iOS device is a DFU restore.

Since updating to 15.3, my pencil 2 will skip on and off but literally every time I use a note taking app. This happens with 3 apps including Apple notes. But it only happens when I have my palm on the screen. If it's not on, it never happens. Also weird stuff has been happening like I would pick up the pencil, put it close to the screen and it magically deletes what I just wrote. Or a written shape like a circle randomly out of nowhere gets put on the screen even though I never wrote it.

I tried resetting all settings, even wiped the ipad (but I restored from my backup right away). Trying to wipe it again now and see if it still does it without me restoring from my backup. If it does still happen, then its either an ipad or pencil issue

Thanks. I would love to find out how to do this. I just need any version prior to 15.3.

I would first try wiping the iPad and setting up without restoring from a backup to see if the issues still happen. If they do I would take the iPad and Pencil to an Apple Store to see what they can do for you, possibly just swapping them out if they can't fix the issue either.

Yeah, good advice. I tried to duplicate the issue with my Mini 6 and pencil on 15.3 and could not - this isn't a systemic version bug.

Thanks, this is what I am trying right now. So far the issue hasn't shown up. The only bad thing is my notes and my files in it are tied to my cloud backup. If I have to write everything all over again, I won't be too happy.

If it was the backup that caused it, wtf Apple? This worries me because what if it was to happen again? Is there any way to restore files from a just one app without doing the whole system icloud restore?

I'm not 100% sure the problem was in the icloud backup but will give it thorough testing tonight.

This is a common problem these days with MacOS and IOS/iPadOS.

If your concerned in the future, I recommend waiting a couple of weeks after an update is released so that any bugs are discovered. And absolutely DO NOT have auto-update on.

Also to note, if your problem persists after restoring, there is a good chance the next update should fix it.

I don't think this is a 15.3 bug - I tried and could not duplicate.

I don’t have my Mac at hand right now, but you should be able to use the Finder on Mac or iTunes on Windows to look into App data for certain apps that allow you to do so, including some “creation” and even banking apps. From there you should also be able to make copies of the files and then drag them to your newly set up device with the apps installed, I know I did this with Beatwave (music making garbage basically 😅) on my iPhone once.
But if your files are saved to iCloud they shouldn’t be affected and you can sync them to your device as you normally would.
Hope this helps.
To me this sounds like a mostly Pencil related problem, as if the Pencil and iPad aren’t communicating correctly. Is there a way for you to try this with a different pencil? I mean, hopefully your restore and everything works this out, but if not you could give it a shot.

I had pencil issues on my iPad Pro and ended up having to wipe the iPad and set it up as a new device because restoring from a backup restored the issues as well. I expect that’s the issue you’re having.

A common problem for perfectly working devices to just randomly start malfunctioning? If so this is worrisome.

Thanks, I will look into this.

I need to do some more testing tomorrow but I believe I still managed to make the Pencil 2 skip twice since I wiped it but didn't restore (set it up as a new ipad). It's happening much less than before the wipe.

I just find it odd that if I don't rest my hand on the screen it never happens. It may have to do with palm rejection.

I ordered another pencil 2 to test it out and I will have it tomorrow.

Looks like it never fixed my issue. Will test out new pencil today. It’s likely hardware failure.

Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like. Writing a bunch of curvy letters is what’s the easiest to replicate it.

It never happens with my hand off the screen and my hand propelled 90 degrees into the air.

Im trying this in Onenote to make sure it’s not an app specific issue. One note is one of the few that has palm rejection in it,

It's more the os than the iPad.
Almost every os release whether mobile or desktop has some issues these days, and a patch is usually released a week later.

I got the new pencil today, charged it up. Even rebooted the ipad and it skipped right away doing "S" letters. So it's not a bad pencil. I even loaded up OneNote right after and it skipped in there too, so I know it's not the app because OneNote has palm rejection in the app.

Sounds like the ipad has crappy palm rejection. Very dissapointed. This is why I bought the ipad again was so stuff like this doesn't happen. This never happens if I have my palm off the glass. Maybe without hands 90 degrees up in the air is how these ipads can handle writing. Absolutely pathetic.

I highly doubt Apple will let me to exchange the ipad for another new one since sometimes i have to write "S" fifty times before it skips. Sometimes it skips on just the 10th time I write "S". But they may not consider this to be defective hardware if it never happens if my hand is off the glass.

For most users you do not want them to have the ability to rollback.

This would open Apple devices to security holes.

I typically wait 30 days then ask anyone if they encountered problems with the update before applying them.

Saves me headaches.
