No.
Apple uses ALAC.
Nope, flac wont work with iTunes. Checked it many times. You have many converters which you could use to convert flac to alac. After that it's just drag an drop
have you definitely tried adding/playing a FLAC file? apologies if so, just your response sounds a little like you may not have done.
iTunes/Music app isn't shows as a suggestion and attempting to "Open File in" doesn't work when using the iTunes/Music app.
I use https://tmkk.undo.jp/xld/index_e.html to convert them to ALAC, don't see a file size increase or quality degradation when I use this and its really fast at about a song a second. But I get it if you aren't wanting to convert your library just for Apple.
As far as I know, that doesn't matter. Flac format is not supported by Apple. Period.
I only know FLAC can be played thru Finder...thanks for checking! i genuinely appreciate that.
i mean that's just literally not true. you can play flacs through the preview function in macos.
No true... You can even play FLAC files from the Files app on iOS...As far as I know, that doesn't matter. Flac format is not supported by Apple. Period.
Here's the bad news: Catalina nixes XLD - the program wont run. You get the error message "Converting to ALAC increase file size by a bit but the quality is the same.
I use XLD which is blazing fast and I'v converted over 2TB of FLAC so far with that.

The one on Sourceforge? That place is a malware vector.
If you read the thread you'd know your prediction is wrong. Apple already supports the FLAC-format.Fearless prediction:
Apple will NEVER support FLAC format.
At least not in any Apple-created software.
Carry on...
