Netkas has tested if Metal was accelerating the interface during the beta stages and found that not all supported graphics cards were doing it yet. It might have changed in the GM.

For classic Mac Pro owners with a non-Apple graphics card , Nvidia is developing the Metal side of the driver currently. Radeon owners will have to check with Apple.

And for the intel HD 4000 integrated GPU ? Any news on that?

Thanks everybody for your answers, interesting read...

That was my initial basic question: can/will Metal Api reduce cpu usage (on my integrated GPU) when opening a plugin window UI in Logic?

And just to be clear, when I speak of double or triple the cpu use in logic (usually, maximum double), when opening plugins, its directly in the logic pro process (activity mon, istat), not on the window server process...
Can't say for sure. But at least you know that it is the implementation of the frameworks being replaced with a Metal optimised one. So anything which uses them would be inherently benefited. If I am not mistaken, WindowServer is just a compositing window manager. That means quite lot of drawing works are still bounded to the application's main thread before being committed to the composition engine.
