I use a 2011 Mac mini (2.3 GHz model) with a 27" Apple Cinema Display (2560x1440) without any problem.

the way to test this would be to use some intensive apps...

could you try using Netflix or Lovefilm for 10mins full screen and check how the heat and fan's responds?

Microsoft Silverlight is a hog.. i know on a 27" imac 2011 it works fine but a mini mac would be interesting.

i have a 13" MBP 2011, thunderbolt display connect and my fan and heat reaches 5400rpm 80 degree celsius

would appreciate it!

Question to spda: did your previous MM run OK on a 27" monitor? i.e. is this specific problem with the new MM with HD3000? Perhaps the NVIDIA card was better for 2D? Pretty frustrating if that is the case. ai could't give a crap about 3D performance, but a smooth desktop is pretty much essential in my opinion.

I have not used previous Mac mini's with my 27" I am afraid, I had a 2006 Mac Pro. I have the 2.5GHz Mac mini with the AMD card. The largest monitor I have used with my older Mac mini's are a 24" 1920x1200 and my 2009 Mac mini are connected to my Plasma TV but even if they doesn't have the 2560x1440 resolution to drive they keep silent and I can watch movies for hours on 2009 without hearing it.
When it comes to the current Mac mini I was expecting a little bit more when it comes to scrolling smoothness and sound.
