But why would I want to run windows if it is the ARM variant with no useful software?

Windows on ARM sucks. The only reason I'd want to run Windows is for legacy compatibility with old x86 based Windows software - if that isn't possible because the ARM variant is the only one that runs, then why bother? Every other mainstream OS (and most niche platforms too) has a better software library than Windows on ARM.

The clue was in the words that I used: "Microsoft will improve Windows for ARM"

By which I mean they will finish it and bring it up on par with x86 Windows. Because the new machines running it will be ASi or Nvidia ARM.

Tell me an RTX 3090 is slower than an A14. I dare you.

It would literally be the size and weight of a brick. And be too hot to touch.

How is that a monopoly?

if Nvidia were to blow up the open licensing model over time and the rest of the market is too slow to adapt ... it is on the edge of being one.

That there is zero for regulators to look at here is grossly wrong.

Nvidia says they aren't going to blow it up. But that is somewhat benevolent dictator talk. Not free, open market mechanism or a regulatory contract to provision one.

ARM did a large sidestep by choosing not to implement anything into the component market themselves. So the vertical stack here would be inherently fragmented. Designers segmented off from implementers with product to sell. Combine the two and the other implementers are at a potential disadvantaged and could be used as a tool to slowly crush them.

If you can figure out how to squeeze an RTX3090 in a Macbook chassis with adequate cooling and still have decent battery life, a logic board, I/O ports and storage without tripling the thickness and weight of the notebook, I'm all ears. Otherwise, it doesn't matter how powerful the 3090 is.
