Sound? Yeah it has sound (comparable to the powerbook 12" anyway).

Beyond emergency use laptop speakers are never going to sound that good, esp. in a 1" thick package (speaker need volume and air to work). I hardly ever use the speakers anyway.

I doubt the 13" MB has sound which is comparable to a 12" PB. This machine I'm using has so much bass, I've tried a MB and it sound worse than an iBook, a machine I've also owned one time.

I moved from a BlackBook CD to a MBP C2D for a bigger higher-resolution screen and more power, and because I was going to be using it day-in day-out for work and personal use, I went for the matte screen. And I'm SOOOO glad I did. It's far more comfortable on my eyes after a long period, no matter where I am and what is behind/around me.

I think the glossy screen is fine for casual/personal use - and better in some ways for viewing films/tv and photos - but no way I could take it all day long.

i prefer the glossy. it makes the whole computer look sharp

When the computer is just sitting there, yes it does make it look "sharp." However, when trying to use a glossy screen, "sharp" isn't the word I would use. I have a glossy PC laptop right now, and it's a pain to use it if there is any light source behind me. I went to see the mb in person, and discovered a similar scenario. For me, the glare is just too distracting.

Fortunately, we have choices (for the time being). To each his own.

the glossy screen on my BlackBook is great, no problems, i love it! :D

i hate how fast it gets dirty-looking, but otherwise it's fine.

CLEAN IT...

I use to be on the whiners side with my matte screens and what not but I say a 17" matte next to a 17" glossy at my local ARS and the glossy was brighter, smoother, and much much sharper than anything I have ever seen in a machine. I also saw a Dell Inspiron with a glossy screen and it made Windoze look good, I was sold and then I bought one myself.

I upgraded from an iBook to a black MB. The iBook matte screen was not as bright, but I really preferred it over the glossy. I used my glossy screen outdoors a few days ago, and on full brightness it was BARELY usable. In fact, I got sick of looking at the mirror that is supposed to be a screen, and went back inside. My iBook would be dimmer outside, but no reflections. Overall, I like the matte screen much more.

Great Screen

I got the MacBook over the MacBook Pro because the screen is so much better. It's much more clear (no grain) and crisp.

Used to have a 12-inch PowerBook. That screen was very dim and unevenly lit when compared to the MacBook screen.

Reflections aren't a problem, even in brightly-lit rooms. They are easy to ignore, just like watching an old CRT TV during the day (which we have all done).

I work on the computer for about 10 hours a day and I don't have any problems.

One thing though: The blackbook does get dirty quickly, just like a black car. You'll have to clean it often to keep it looking tip-top and maybe invest in a keyboard cover to keep the keys nice and new. I really prefer the aluminum finish, both the feel of it and the easy maintenance. I'll probably switch to the MBP in a few months simply because the case material is so superior.

same

My neighbour has a blackbook and I've just received a whitebook. Side by side there are no problems at all with the gloss. We agree that its actually rather neat.

Shouldn't the black and white macbooks be the same screen?

I actually like the glossy screen. I like the rich colors, and on mine, there is minimal glare.

When I saw the matte and glossy screens side-by-side, I couldn't tell the difference in terms of "richness." The colors looked the same on both to me, and the glare does bother me, so for me, matte is the only way to go. But like I said, to each his own.
