I’ve got the 12.9 version coming Monday.

Clear to see tablet mode requires removal from it. I use my iPad, primarily, for note taking with Apple Pencil, in portrait mode. I'd never write lay the iPad on a surface naked and write. Will need to think how to manage this now.

600g for the 11-inch model it seems.

Also the stream on he confirmed you can't fold it back :)

Also the USB-C port is charging only.

1. Get a screen shield skin for the back
2. Get that case that works with the folios
3. Take iPad off stand and shut case and place iPad on top

:D

Not a skin shield fan.
I do have the standard folio at the moment so may just consider my day more and take whichever suits.
I was thinking that would be the way compromise, I’ve asked above how sturdy that feels though.

I guess it depends on your use case for the thing. I suspect most people will use it as either a “docking station” at their desk or when they need something laptop-like for working on the move or at another location?

When I’m using the iPad for other things, I want it in as light a case as possible or just naked with a skin on it. But I get that everybody has different needs. The keyboard folio will still be a good, light option for some who may just prefer that and an external mouse or trackpad.

Hmm, it appears the trackpad is not haptic. He removed the iPad from the case and the trackpad continued to ‘click’, unless it was still connected somehow over Bluetooth?

Did he not like the feel of it? If there’s one thing Apple do well its trackpads...

Cant wait for someone with a kitchen scale to weight it precisely.

Correction - the 11 inch Magic Keyboard weighs 0.6kg
....and compared to the Smart Keyboard Folio for the 11 inch (.297kg).....the magic keyboard weighs .67 lbs more than the SKF.

To me, the pros/cons of the Magic Keyboard over the SKF are:

Pros:
  • Design/style
  • Typing experience
  • Backlit Keys
  • Trackpad
  • More angles of view
  • Extra charging port on case, leaving iPads USB C port open for other uses.
  • Doubles as a “chick-magnet” unlike the boring SKF. This feature alone might be worth the price of admission😊
Cons:
  • Price
  • Does not fold back (less versatile for use with pencil, portrait mode viewing, etc...)
  • Weight
  • No early indications as to what type/quality of “chick“ the case attracts with its “magnet”😊
Same:
  • Exterior case material (same cheap feeling and boring material....that scratches easily)
Does anyone know if the keys are “spill-proof” on the Magic Keyboard...and if the material used on the keys is the same as the SKF?

I am willing to bet they keys are NOT spill-proof.

The material is obviously not the same, at all. It is plastic key caps like on a MacBook,

Too bad. Heavy and does not fold back. I would have been willing to pay the outrageous price, but now I save $300.

Apple has run up against the limits of their original design of the iPad. Because the Surface Pro has a stand build in, it can have a light keyboard cover WITH a trackpad. Not possible on iPad.

Indeed. The backlight visible round the edges of the keys in the videos confirms there is no protective layer like the SKF.
