Overall worse IMO. It's heavier and larger. The only plus compared to the S4 is the backplate.

with the back being removable you can easily replace it with something else from 3rd party/ebay...its going in a case anyways...

This is my biggest issue with the Galaxy S5.

I would have preferred if Samsung simply updated the specs of the S4 and changed the texture of the back (but not to this weird dimpled thing which worked on a cheap $200 tablet 2 years ago but does NOT work on a +$600 dollar device in 2014). It looks like a cheap knockoff of the galaxy S4: not as thin, larger bezels, more tacky/ostentatious chrome rim and plastic imitation material for the back. And it's not like the S4 was that premium to begin with...

But to each their own. I already have the phone I want (Nexus 5) and I have no issue if others prefer the Galaxy S5. Good for them :)

There is so much they could have done to package all of it into a nice looking plastic shell (Look at nokia)..

For what its worth, the bezels had to be bigger in order to gain the IP67 dustproof/water-resistant certification.

At the same time though, I'm still not a fan of the bezels.

Yes I was thinking that too. It also looks like they are trying to make the device more durable with that large raised rim around the screen. It is a bit more forgivable knowing they did design the phone with durability in mind which is rather nice. Still too big for me though.

The only real difference is the back, and it looks much better than the cheap looking S4 backing. Looks like it feels nicer too.

Obviously haven't seen it in person, but prefer the smaller physical size and smaller bezels on the s4, so I'd say s4 aesthetics. Though prefer the look of the camera and flash on s5

I just want the note3 style back from the gs4 black edition that samsung doesn't seem to sell separately.

The Galaxy S4 Black Edition is the best looking phone Samsung offers right now, IMO. The faux stitched leather looks much better than the faux shiny perforated leather (or whatever they're trying to simulate) and infinitely better than the standard glossy S4 back panel.

I don't think it looks great. But I have no problem with it being either heavier or a little thicker.

Never do I hear people with modern flagship phones say it is too thick or too heavy. All the time I hear people with modern flagships say it doesn't have good enough battery life. So if a little extra weight and a little extra thickness mean better battery life, that is totally worth it IMO.

In fact, for the iPhone 6, I would LOVE it if they went back to the iPhone 4/4S thickness if it meant a larger battery.
