Update for all those interested...

After four trips to the Genius Bar and each time getting a "yeah well I agree with you but they're all like that," I called Apple on the phone after lunch today and ended up speaking with Customer Relations. I have to tell you that the Apple folks on the phone were really understanding and helpful. They called the store and I returned the MacBook Pro earlier this evening for a full refund. I don't want to deal with problems and poor manufacturing.
Good for you. Go search for another "laptop". Apple's ones are just not ready now.

I just spent 2500$ on a laptop. It's unacceptable to have this sort of issues with the display. With 2500$ we should get some quality control - something that's missing in Apple products for a couple of years now.

I waited 2 months to get my laptop and there is no way I send it for repair (taking 6 or 8 weeks) or wait for a new replacement laptop.

So yeah, I will not stop complaining.

"Macs are more expensive than dells"
"My MacBook is hot"
"My MacBook Pro makes a funny noise"
"I want C2D"
"Core 2 Duo isnt as amazing as i thought"
"My screen isnt as perfect as I would like it to be"

STOP COMPLANING! :)

The other day I went to a retail store in Southpoint (Durham, NC), and the matte 15'' MBP's screen looked very bad: only a part of the screen was bright and I had to move my head around to "brighten up" the rest of the screen. The glossy model next to it looked good.

By the way, my 15'' PB with a matte screen looks good. While it is not as bright overall as the 15'' MBP, the display on the PB is evenly lit. I guess Apple must have gotten their MBP's matte LCD panels on sale

Agreed. I returned my 15" MBP C2D to my uni. reseller. Now, at least, besides losing a little on shipping charges, I have my $1800 back. Hmmm ... what to do. Was thinking about waiting it out for C2D refurbs, or just spring for a best-for-your-buck MacBook... and wait it out for the 12" ultrathin MBP! Man, if I had a backup machine, I'd love to wait until after MWSF, but I need a machine in the next few weeks ...
