It keeps stuttering on both revA and revB right from the beginning. It also keeps stuttering after full buffer.

It works like a charm on the base model MB, so for those who are blaming Adobe's Flash, that is a total BS since both machine are running the same Flash version.

BTW, I tested it on Flash 9 NOT 10, so it might work better on 10.

Please let me know since I am interested in finding more about this issue. The store manager couldn't believe it and he was blaming it on the network, but when I showed it to him after full buffer, he was totally  &. He also made the comment "no one want's to pay this amount of money and cannot run this simple video :D." I really like his honesty ;)

I can't find the Poll option for "Hulu doesn't work outside the US due to copyright restrictions" so only Americans can test this :)

The version of Flash used will matter a lot more than you realize. Flash 10 is 40 - 60% more efficient than Flash 9 on OSX and it represents a massive upgrade in performance in my tests.

Edit: I did recreate this with the Rev. A and Rev. B after a couple of tests.

It seems the video is really hitting the CPU hard so that is where the stuttering is coming from. The machine itself is doing fine, but the resources needed for the really heavy Flash just aren't there even in Flash 10. You can watch a similar video via Quicktime and you won't see any stuttering on a Rev. B. The Rev. A seems to handle that similar video better with VLC than Quicktime.

It runs beautifully on my 2.4 Uni MB. That is some amazing footage in the beginning, flying through those mountains.

I once had a problem with youtube vids stuttering, I had my MB on for about 2 weeks so I decided to restart, that cured it and it's never stuttered since.

Yep it stutters.

Sad, I am in firefox with flash version 10. I even paused it to let it buffer. First flash video that I have seen stutter. Ah looks good. However, my 720p rips off of usenet looks 10 x better, however no stutter.

OSX and Flash are horrible, apple really needs to fix this.

edit: rev b 1.6/120 gig.

However, I still love this computer, I'd take the mba over the unibody mb's anyday. Macbooks have horrible screens. MBP, eh not portable for my uses. Plus, I have my usenet app open, pages, firefox, things, textmate, colloquy, preview, mail, lotus notes.. guess what? All running without a hitch. Apple did a great job with the mba. Not being able to stream a 720p FLASH movie? Wow, big deal. I can watch 1080p mkv's without a hitch.

The point that I am trying to get, if we are looking for a portable machine, why should we pay for the crippled MBA?

There are many options on the market and yes, they do not have Mac OS, but you can always install it if you want to. A portable machine is always treated as a second computer 80% of the time if not more meaning that we should be able to do without the Mac OS.

I am sure if we stop paying these ridiculous prices to Apple, they would either fix their machines or reduce their prices just like what happened to the refurbished revA machines.

Unfortunately, people seem to pay any amount for anything that Steve has touched!

I do not understand how a 1.2 low voltage Intel in a Vaio TT can handle this video which the 1.6 full powered Intel C2D processor in the MBA cannot handle! Again, some of us blame Adobe for this, but Apple is the one since they are NOT attracting these companies/developers to improve the performance of their machines.

I would like to thanks all of those who has given their feedback and would love for this thread to continue with peace without it turning into a fight over how loyal we should be to a company that is not being loyal to its customers.

Do not understand me wrong, I love Apple and I get crazy over its products which are way ahead in terms of design than many other companies, but lately, their machines have been suffering tons of issues which is unfortunate.

Yes, but......

I played most of the video, and I counted two short frame freezes initially, which I am going to attribute to buffering, but the video played without a single stutter thereafter.

I am using flash 10. I recorded 6202 RPM on the fans, even though I have yet to hear the fans even at this speed, and temps around 67C. I am dragging my feet on CoolBook as I am getting around the same temps on my MacBook.

I also watched the video on my 2007 white MB, and the video played without a single stutter, running flash 9. So, yes, my old MacBook performs better, but the Air's performance wasn't so far behind either.

Major stuttering using Flash 10. Very disappointing.

This is really a case of Adobe writing crap software. You can tell the problem isn't with the video or machine itself by playing 720p streaming video via Quicktime without problems.

Apple can't really force Adobe to write better software. You could say that Linux is also responsible for Adobe writing crap software for that OS too because it did not attract the companies to write for it. As Rachel says, Bullpucky.

I hope the new 64bit builds for Linux are a sign of things to come for Flash because they run very well.

Vendetta anyone?

Why do you care what we choose to spend our money on?

For some of us, we don't NEED to watch HD video on our MBA.

Again, I've said it before, different strokes, different folks. We all use our machines differently.

Move on folks.

I agree, a bit meaningless as ppl have different MBA configurations.

UPDATE: Just ran it on my Quad MP and it stutters.. not due to CPU but due to Hulu Buffering. Wonder if the OP took the time to fully load the movie?

I understand that every one uses his MBA differently, but this is just another thing that Apple did not bother fixing.

Again for those blaming Adobe, why would a 2.0 MB with an Intel x3100 can run this video while a 1.86 MBA with nVidia 9400 (4x better than Intel's) according to Apple & nVidia cannot?

I discovered this thing while trying to convince myself that the MBA is worth it regardless of the UGLY lines which hopefully would be fixed one day, however, I discovered this which is worse than the lines for me at least.

If you would like to limit your MBA use to regular flash videos or maybe some HQ ones that is fine, but do not blame those who would love to watch 720p flash videos on a $1800-$2500 machine. Blame the ones who made it and did not give it the enough juice and support it needs to run such simple tasks.

At the end, I just wanted to let people of one more thing before going ahead and buying a MBA and then get in a war with Apple to simply have their refund. It is better to know the positives and negatives of every machine so consumers can decide what is suitable for them. I am NOT saying that all of those with MBAs are idiots so please stop blaming me and blame Apple if you are not happy with what you have.

not one stutter

I was beginning to feel a little lonely:D....two stutters that I attribute to buffering.

The video played fine for me, and amrk47. I might have lucked out, but I don't have a problem playing videos on my Rev. A, and I am totally satisfied with its video playback capabilities.

Do you post on another blog under the username GEORGE?

I don't have to prove anything to you, and I actually did not vote as my experience was not an option in your poll. My playback had two minor freezes, but played without incident for the next two minutes or so that I watched.

If I can scratch out a few minutes in my busy to record my playback, I will certainly post my experience here. Apple is a billion dollar company, and certainly doesn't need me to defend its products; I am not an Apple apologist.

My computer functions as I stated, and if it didn't I would be the first person in line to speak to a genuius or request a refund within the 14-day return period. I am frankly surprised that my Rev. A was able to play a video that stutters so badly on the highly regarded Rev. B.

I noticed also that the revA performed somehow better compared to revB which was a total shock compared to the various defects with revA.

Showing us a video is just something that would make is feel better since you might be able to share with us your secrets on that video.

It is funny that you take the time to defend Apple even though you start by stating that you do not have to!

If I were you, I would not even bother spending as much time you do on these forums if my MBA is this perfect to run a video that even revB cannot handle!!!
