I got the overall advice that because it had the word "facebook" in it, that the site would not be worth what it normally would be (due to the extremely valuable keywords "facebook" "marketplace").

Am I the only one seeing the contradiction here?

You were told it would not be worth much due to the extremely valuable keywords?

Snap out of it OP. You made a gazzillion percent profit by taking a risk. You state yourself that you don't know what the purchaser did with the name, you are only making an assumption passed on your fatalism.

Even if they did make a profit, would it match the gazzillion percent profit you made? No. Quit focussing on the dollars (a detail) and instead look at the big picture.... the profit margin. And, the purchaser took a risk too.... there was a risk that Facebook would take them down (even if Facebook loses the case, could you have afforded the lawyer to prove your case in court? No. And neither could they, probably.) You got rewarded for taking a risk. They may have gotten a return on taking a risk. Move on.

And, returning to my thought about focussing on the profit margin (big picture) - there are tonnes of stories out there about self-made billionaires who take as much delight in doubling their $20 investment in a bar bet or a golf bet as the $$millions return on the sale of a company.

If the thought of a few thousand dollars lost opportunity it going to drive you this nuts, don't bother with the big money..... can you imagine how it's going to feel when the stakes are $100,000? When you might lose a million dollars?

So grow up, move on, you did OK. You got paid for taking a risk. By definition taking a risk means it is risky. There are no guarantees, no sure bets. You want a sure bet? Get a government job and stay there for 25 years.

My dad is in the entertainment industry aka film festivals, premiers, etc aka travel .

It's one thing to get over a girl.... which I'll probably be breaking up with my girlfriend too cause I can't take the additional stress she causes me.. but anyways, bitches come and go, $$ over bitches, we should all know that... even if it hurts for a bit.

This is serious and I don't know how I am gona wake up to it tomorrow.

The correct answer would be to accept what happened and move on and work hard to achieve something that has an even more viable outcome... and finish school etc.... but I have a feeling this is going to mess with my head for a long time.

PROPS to them for cleverly ****ing over someone young with little experience in domain value and the complexity of laws concerning trademarks. They won. I lost.

And no, I can tell myself in all honestly right now, that there will never be another domain I come across that is still available to buy for $5, that ends up turning into and owned by OODLE INC / FACEBOOK from me for $1400........... About 10% of the people I talked to (in real life and on forums) said not to sell.... Who would of known? Wait, I should of.

I just needed to confirm that I did make a huge mistake, so eventually, perhaps, I'll be able to accept that.. thanks..

Wow.

Dude, if you hadn't sold, how would you have made money off the domain? You don't have services to sell. You didn't miss a million-dollar opportunity here. At worse, you missed maybe, like, a higher offer of $2-3k. But, being greedy might have also resulted in them walking away, and then you would have sat on it.

You made a safe sell, and you made a profit. You wouldn't have made millions off of the domain anyway. Don't worry about it so much.
