Don't buy an apple watch or you will regret it in 3 years, every watch sold right now (series 11, se 3 ans ultra 3) have the S10 chip which has the same cpu/gpu than the s9 from almost 3 years ago... if you don't want the series 8 case to happen to you then please wait for the series 12 !
The Apple Watch will continue to work just like the day it was purchased for 6-10 years without problem. There are forum users still using Series 2 watches with iOS 26.

How will they "regret" it? New hardware comes out all the time and those who bought previous versions won't have what new versions have. Watch OS is very hardware focused.

If you're trying to say - buy the latest chip design for longest OS support, then ok, but it's not like the watch will stop working - it'll work just fine for a very long time.

I'd also add, you can sometimes get amazing deals from Best Buy $100 off - and get a current generation Apple Watch for a really good deal.

I think you mean Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen). Apple Watch Series 2 software support ended with watchOS 6.
I mean Series 2. You can still pair it to an iPhone with iOS 26 and use it for normal Apple Watch activities, etc.

Just because support ended doesn't mean it won't still work with the latest iOS. https://support.apple.com/en-us/118490 "or later" - they still work with the latest iOSs amazingly enough lol 🙂

I've had my AWU3 nine months already and it's helped me lose almost 40% of my body weight since then. My priorities are elsewhere
Well done, mate.

I've lost more than a stone, but that's with MyFitnessPal, and counting calories (I have a complication on my watch face, which shows me how many calories I have left for the day.)

I live a sedentary lifestyle, so don't use my watch for any fitness tracking!

Look after you 👍.

Edit: Now lost a stone & a half.

Thanks for the information.
I was considering to get an Apple watch but was undecided after what happened to the older models with the watchOS 27.
Now will wait for not just a new watch but with a new chip as well.
It's their product they can do whatever they want. Hope they don't do same with iPhone or Mac.
Not getting feature is understandable but not getting entire OS upgrade is not good.

Presumably, if you get a good enough deal on a Series 11, which is available at reduced prices, then, even if you only use it three years, it won't be that much per year for the functionality you want. You aren't buying a Rolex, you are buying an appliance.
Yeah of course but at this point you could also want to get a series 9 or 10…

Any tech watch has a shelf life. Whereas if you really want a proper watch those can last forever if cared for. Trying to buy for longevity with any tech is a fools mans game. You might wait for the next update but are you really gaining more time? You have purposely delayed not having something now so you can have it a bit longer later.

With the upcoming end of new OS support for various watches, I've seen a lot of content here and elsewhere that makes me wonder what some people are even buying these watches for in the first place. It seems like a decent percentage of users are buying watches a) to install updates and b) to use as a regular watch.

Assuming you bought a watch to track sleep and exercise, listen to media, send messages, etc (the core functions of the watch) then the lack of WatchOS27 doesn't change anything. Would it be nice to keep getting updates? Of course. Are people overreacting and acting like their devices will die the day WatchOS 27 drops? Absolutely.

Take a breath, chill out, your watch is going to keep working for a long time.

That's my plan. I'm hoping Apple won't repeat its decision to stop supporting so many watches. That seemed a bit extreme.
Apple will probably repeat it again, remember that this is not the first time, they did drop Series 4, 5 and SE 1 at the same time ! Next time Apple will drop a watch, it will be the series 9-10-11-se3-ultra2 and ultra 3 which is one more watch !

Fortunately, you will be fine with a series 12 if the chip is improved (like expected) (and of course they will drop the series 12 at the same time of 13 and 14 if they have the same chip)

I've never owned the Apple Watch. Coz the battery life is so short. The watch is relatively expensive. And the watch is far too large.

My Casio is $15 and runs for a decade per charge, small and light.
A Casio is a fine watch, but it’s an entirely different device to an Apple Watch. There’s not really any point in comparing them, they serve wildly different purposes.

With Apple there is the implied promise of long-term software support. I have an Apple Watch bought at the end of 2022 that will stop getting new features after only 3 new versions. That is quite the let down from Apple, with the expectations that they themselves built.

The Apple Watch is never going to have an on-device AI because the laws of physics just don't allow for it. At the same time everything you might use an Apple Watch for, from chronology to payments to fitness is just as accessible on a Series 3 as a Series 11. Its not a device that ever needed annual updates/

I just went from a series 6 to a series 11 this year. I noticed a larger display, better battery life, and better connectivity with my Macs, etc(not sure why my series 6 wasn't doing the unlock). I'm not sure what a better chip would even get you except less battery life if it needs more power. At this point I mostly just use it for "silent" notifications(having sleeping babies), and fitness tracking.

If you can pair it with a life insurance company or other health companies, it's a nice bonus(I pay less for the watch based on activity). I dont think I would buy it apart from these though.
