I'm always amused by these kids who obviously have no appreciation for the extent of jailbreak functionality yet haughtily declare that they see no reason to jailbreak anymore.

The ability to block ads in Safari and ads in apps is one reason. Another is to be able to tether without my provider being able to tell is another. I've used as much as 75GB without T-Mobile saying a word.

I'm just waiting for the JB to have a Mac version and then I'm upgrading and I'm in.

I just want to speed up the animations on the 6+.

I'd forgotten about that. Fakeclockup!

Also. Folders in folders.

There are a few things though that I genuinely find it amazing that Apple haven't integrated into stock iOS. Things like font changes. Themes. App icon size. Date in the status bar. The ability to set any song as a ringtone. They are all really simple and I have no idea why Apple refuses to allow users those options.

These are basic functions you can get in a £60 android phone yet a £600 iPhone doesn't have them. I find that astonishing.

Basically. If I pay £600 for a phone. I want control over it. I don't want to have to do everything apple says how apple says when Apple says. Without a jailbreak an iPhone (to me personally) is extremely limiting and somewhat annoying to use because of those limits.

Once you jailbreak your iPhone it can actually be the amazing bit of technology apple for some reason don't want it to be. The functionality brought to the iPhone via jailbreaking it absolutely phenomenal.

No disrespect to the op that uses the name of aPple nErd
Maybe apple sheep would be more appropriate. Again this is only a jab towards humor. One would think nerd to be more than a follower.

aPple nErd please dont take it wrong as its only jk

I would say that f.lux, Infinidock and TouchID protecting Apps are key. Themes are not as important but a nice addtion.

I wouldn't need to j/b if these "features" were stock on iOS:

Winterboard
3g Unrestrictor
BiteSMS
Mywi
Springtomize

goodness... the list would go on lol.

Like many, I have little reason to jailbreak these days, but there are a few JB apps I really like and that I felt added to the convenience and utility of the way *I* use my iphone. One of these was the little "mail" applet that allowed me to check all the mail in my inbox with one button touch and then delete it all. Can't do that without the JB. I also liked to put what *I* wanted to put in the Control Center.

So, when the JB stabilizes, hopefully in the next few days, I'll JB my 5S. :)
I'm happy for the opportunity.

No need to jailbreak? Whenever you figure out how to have the following on stock iOS 8.1 and up let me know OP...

Adblocker (for Safari)
BiteSMS (iOS quick reply not nearly as good)
CCsettings
iFile
Springtomize
Game emulators with controller support

Do you realize that NONE of the apps/tweaks you refer to are working yet? So when you figure out how to have them on iOS8 working, then let me know too. Theres never a guarantee that the developer will make it compatible.

Yes, your reply to the OP is moot, at least now.

EDIT - I can't verify is emulators are working, I don't use them. And Adblock is only partially working.

The developers of those tweaks I listed have updated them every time to be compatible for every single iOS release since their inception. That's a pretty good precedent to expect they will again for iOS 8 imo...

Customized themes/icons and most importantly shrinking icons/adding extra columns and rows. Especially on the 6+ and iPad air 2 I feel like there's soooo much wasted space it's obnoxious.

TetherMe is very useful.

Do we still need it after 8.1? I had TetherMe on my iPhone 5 with unlimited data.....saved me $30/month tethering fee on Verizon. Since getting an iPhone 6 and moving the unlimited data SIM to my iPad Mini, I find I can use the Personal Hotspot on the Mini since 8.1 to serve up unlimited data to any other device I want without paying a tethering fee to Verizon.

I need JB because I am with the Japanese version iPhone, there is no way to switch off the camera shutter sound except JB and modify the system file.

Not at all, there are very easy ways to safeguard enable/disable these rights to further protect users from themselves. Even if only an additional layer of confirmation acknowledging the risks. How is it any different within a windows box or osx or Linux? If you break it, you learn to fix it via a fresh install or take it to someone that will do it for you.

I think the right philosophy behind building these types of OS's is to first make the system easy and restrictive, rather than open and complex from the beginning. People who want administrative rights, will acquire those rights regardless.

My grandfather doesn't want to learn anything, he needs a computer for the most basic of stuff, OS X is easy to use and very hard to break, without actually consciously opening everything up. iOS follows this philosophy as well and I am glad it does.

The only two things tempting me to jailbreak are f.lux and themes. Other than that, I've been fine running as is.

So implementing the same type of safeguards of OS X into ios would not be safe for your grandfather. I can't understand how it would change anything negatively. It all comes down to trying to control/minimize pirating, nothing else. imo
