I have 3 Apple Retail stores within 10 to 15 minutes of my house. I see a lot of people that don't have access to an apple store. Is it rare to live next to them or something.

According to Apple spokewoman Amy Barney, as quoted in this recent article, half the US population lives within 15 miles of an Apple Store. So that's still a lot of people who don't have one near them.

And then there's the international scene...

I gather you're in California or somewhere on the east coast?

Apple stores are in large cities (about 200,000 people or more).

In 2000, 58% of the US population lived in urban areas with a population of 200,000 or more. Then take into account, Apple doesn't have a store in every city (and multiple stores in the same urban areas) leaves a lot of people not living near one.

When I was going to school in SW Michigan, the closest Apple store was almost a 2 hour drive away. Here Pasadena, I have an Apple store about a 7 minute walk from where I live.

Up until last year, I used to have to drive 3 hours to my closest Apple store. Not fun. Compusa just wasn't the same.

Two closest stores to me are six and eight hours of drive time away.

I'm still holding out for an announcement of a Store in my town this year.

I live in Newport Beach; We have stores at South Coast Plaza, Newport Fashion Island, and Irvine Spectrum. All of which are around 10 to 15 minutes away from me.

I cannot believe Santa Barbara doesn't have an Apple Store. That is ridiculous.

I feel like NJ has more stores then we need....although we have the highest population per square mile, so I can see why we're getting so many store.

And I'm not upset in anyway :)

has there been any word on a opening date/year/season?

The Boston.com article I got that pic from said end of this year/beginning of next year, could be as early as December.

I also saw a couple of other sites that had construction progress. They just finished the foundation I believe.

Google "Apple Store Boylston" you might be able to find more.

I love the design, it looks so awesome.

There's two near me. One in the Trafford Center and one in the Arndale Center (shopping centers in Manchester). I live about a 3 minute walk from the Arndale Center one.

There's one about 20 mins away from me but it's in Bluewater (mahoosive shopping complex) which is pretty unreachable through public transport. Well, it is, but it's a day trip job for sure, seeing as the journey through public transport is much less 20 mins and more 2 hours! :(
