Just a word of warning to everyone, DO NOT screw up your delivery date like I did. Most years I leave a signed note on the door requesting they leave my package (since I'm always at work). This year I decided to use the UPS myChoice to request they hold it at my local UPS store. I figured it's only a few bocks away from where I live and I can swing by after work (since they're open till 7pm!) and get the package then...

Well they don't tell you until AFTER you hit submit that it will change the delivery date to 9/24/18.... Monday, THREE DAYS later, to literally deliver it about 1 mile away from where I live.

I called UPS and the rep said they can't do anything on their end because I used myChoice, so myChoice is the only way that a change can be made. Well online myChoice just says "can not request delivery change" now. The tech punted me over to their "tech support" group that has access to myChoice, they said they don't have access to myChoice other than account features (think reset password, help with log in, etc) and advised me to go online to make the change.

So short of it, it sounds like it's a one way option that you can not cancel and it will slow your delivery down A LOT. UPS phone support do not have the access to cancel this request, so DON'T DO IT!!!!

It's very possible that the sooner it gets to Friday that date you can pick it up will change back to 9/21.

Edit: Just noticed you said a UPS Store, in that case then yeah it could have pushed it out until Monday. If it were the UPS distribution center then it would probably change to allow you to pick it up on 9/21.

So you had a good day then ;)

It's absurd that you can't cancel that option... and Apple has restricted the shipments so you can't request a different address with UPS. Just either UPS store/distribution or different day. It seems no one has the power to change this again...

Ya.... feels good to screw yourself every now and then >.<

You have my sympathies buddy and yeah its crazy that UPS cant reverse that transaction.

This is kind of why I am reluctant to change anything with either UPS or DHL. I’d rather just wait till Friday night than wait till Monday morning. :)

It shows you before you submit on the MyChoice app that the date is the 24th before you submit. Not sure what you did. Always choose to hold at a CC because its been known that holding it at a UPS store will always delay it.

My worry was that they wouldn't leave it at the door. I got to talking to my delivery driver last time he dropped off an Apple product (because I happened to be home!) and he said the iPhone never allow them to "leave at the door" even with pre-authorization, UPS had made a change or something a couple years ago and said delivery must be signed for, etc. He told me he would still leave mine since I've been at this location for like 5 years and ordering these every year and leaving a nice note asking if he would please leave it. (Plus I have a front area that's hidden away from the street). But I still always get worried that if a different driver is on the route then they won't leave it and instead I'll have to pick it up Monday or something (oh god I would love if Apple could have these deliver on Thursday!)

I spoke with another UPS rep and they said since I made the adjustment through myChoice they are unable to do anything. I and literally the only person that can make any changes. This leads me to think if you CALL them and request a change they might be able to adjust it again, but the "feature" myChoice, ya, it sounds like a horrible thing they have.

I was at least about to change it to my central distribution center which gave me a Friday delivery date again BUT, they close at 6 and are across town. So I'll have to leave work early and dash across town fighting traffic to get it in time.

I sure hope no one actually pays for myChoice!

Apparently when you do it online, yes. If you use the mobile version (just visit UPS.com on your iphone and then log in to mychoice) it does NOT tell you the delivery date change until AFTER you hit submit. WORST DESIGN EVER.

Also, UPS's support people, all offshore help, and way not friendly, and poor English skills. I've gotten spoiled by some of the recent push to improve phone support by bringing back American locations that I forgot how frustrating horrible offshore support was!

I can relate to this, I made a change last year as well and could not reverse it to the life of me. Att's package was only to be released to the account holder. Spouse who is the account holder due to corp discounts.

I realized that and tried to reverse to delivery....I must have spent 2 hours with tech support and with UPS online. They claimed one thing and on the ground at the UPS facility it was another story. Fact is their system is not in sync and should be carful with using that.

I almost want to swing by my central hub Thursday with a signed note explaining the issue and with the tracking number on it and ask them if they can just give it to their driver the next day and have him deliver it to my home, and they can keep my note for any records if the phone goes missing or something... I'm pretty sure I trust my local driver

And it's a huge pain to get to this location on a Friday before they close, which is why I picked the store just a few minutes from my house originally :(

This.

But it may depend on area.. ive never had a delay to the ups store. Unless its the day of that i try, as long as it wasnt in the local area i could swap it to the usp store on my way home from work. In another city. Hell another state.. i live in one state, work in the neighboring state where the ups hub is located.

But.. i will say there is something different with large item purchases. That was the only time it has changed.

I know what you are going through, I eventually went to the facility that morning and they released it to me, as my DriversL had same address. And I showed that Im the authorized user on the account. But...they are under rules not to release the iPhone says on the box and notes, from my memory.

Yep, which is why I've always been worried that they won't leave it at my house, even if I leave a signed note or pre-auth form. My hub doesn't open that morning until 10:30am, other wise I would swing by at 7:30 or 8am before work (since traffic in that direction isn't an issue) since the iphone's usually are "on the truck" for delivery by like 6am in my area.

I'm just so surprised there isn't a "cancel" option. Schedules change all the time, as long as it's 24 hours before the delivery date (or still out in the system before it hits the local hub) you should be able to adjust or cancel where you pick it up or if you need it held. I was going to just pay the $5/package or whatever to use the "different address" option in myChoice, but Apple has locked that down and restricted against that option, probably to prevent people stealing the packages, which makes sense, but then should require some additional login info or something compared to just adding a tracking number to whatever myChoice account.

eh, rookie mistake... it happens

Considering I've had an iPhone on release day every year except for last, I'm far from a rookie, just dumb mistake this year! lol

yeah I can see that because I couldn't even see my CC unless I did it on the computer. Sucks for sure.

Its their mobile app, if done there you can't reverse but apparently on desktop you can? I was told way too many things. I just dont bother. But that sucks. I bet you can still get it Friday. Just says 24th.

I honestly don't see any place where you can "cancel". When tracking it in myChoice it shows the status, my address as where it's going to, and "hold for pickup" as the delivery change request. When you click "change delivery" a popup window opens with "pickup my package at a UPS location", "Deliver my package to another address", and "deliver my package on another day", and "cancel". The cancel button just cancels that window and returns you to the status page, which still shows the hold for pickup.

If you select "pickup my package at a UPS location" you get a list of all locations near your ship to address (my home) and are able to pick one. If you leave them all unselected and click "next" it gives you an error that you need to pick one. If you click back it returns you to the previous screen with the 3 options.

You can't select another address because "This option has been restricted due to the specific status or nature of your shipment. This option has been restricted by your shipper."

I can select another date, but nothing sooner then what it defaults to, just later date.

Again "cancel" just closes the window and takes you back to the status.

There is literally no way to cancel a hold request or pickup at UPS store request if you make it with myChoice (since apparently UPS employees have zero access to myChoice)

Yeah that would definitely freak me out. I was considering choosing a UPS cc for pickup but I think I’m just going to let it be delivered to my home. Less stress

I sympathize. I could have had a release date phone too if my husband and I hadn’t been so groggy and off our game during preorder. Once we realized the mistake, there were still iPhones available for pickup on release day and I could have canceled my order and redid it...but the Apple store would not let me cancel or edit my order in any way. That option would not be available until many hours later in the day, and of course by then I could no longer order the model I wanted for pickup at my local Apple store. So I’ll be stuck waiting all day for the UPS truck one day in October.

Well, doing the math, a 3 day delay/365 days comes out to 00.8% delay. Considering that's less than 1%, I don't see it as much of a problem. And much safer than leaving it on your porch. IF someone grabbed it there, you would be looking at a MUCH GREATER delay in getting a replacement.

Is the hold request already showing in the tracking? I did something similar last year, I scheduled a hold at the UPS hub, then realized I wouldn’t be available to pick up it up. I wasn’t able to change it back to home delivery until the tracking reflected the customer hold request. Hopefully the same will happen with you.

But if you think of it as a seven day ordering and shipping process then taking three extra days is like 40% longer....

So I would agree if last year I was able to pre-order for delivery on the 21st and that now got pushed back to the 24th then the total extra wait time is almost nothing.

However, ordering last Friday for delivery THIS Friday and now having to wait till Monday (possibly) is a considerably longer perceived delay.

I'm keeping an eye on it, but I wanted to warn others not to mess with this... just in case.

When I go to track it, it does show
"Delivery Change Requested:

Hold for Pickup"

So I think it's showing in the system... but I'll check it again tomorrow just to see if anything changed...

That's part of the killer this year for me, it was SO easy to pre-order one! The store didn't crash once, no slow loading, nothing. I think I took like ten minutes going back and forth between colors before I actually clicked "order". (Granted I was going for 512Gb SIM free full cost paid right away, so demand might have been slightly lower on that)

In your case... if you're able to float the cost, you probably could have ordered another one for pickup in store and then cancelled the apple order a couple hours later when the system updated... but I know not everyone can float $1,000 to $2,000 or more if ordering more than one phone, on a credit card.

I can float it but the problem is I processed a trade at the same time and you get locked out of doing that for a second order once they have the exact trade-in phone (it’s in their system) already earmarked for the first phone.
