I can float it but the problem is I processed a trade at the same time and you get locked out of doing that for a second order once they have the exact trade-in phone (it’s in their system) already earmarked for the first phone.

Ah, yes, that would be an issue. I'm handing mine 7+ down to my mom to bring her closer to being up to date with things :p

That said, the $1500 (after tax) for the 512Gb iPhone XS Max didn't make me feel great. Usually on pre-order night I'm so happy and excited to score one... this time I went to bed thinking "man I shouldn't have ordered that... my current phone works fine still..."

I figure I'll settle into a two year or maybe even three year upgrade window...

It happed to us a few years ago. Now I preorder for pick up at the store.

My closest store is ~150 miles away. While I've taken the day off to make a day trip of it before, this year I didn't feel like shuffling my work schedule around. I also thought about having it shipped to my work address, but of course everything has to go through our central warehouse which takes one to FIVE days before it actually gets to my building or office, ugh. lol

Oh relax and enjoy! That’s wonderful. I think it’s great you went for it. Given that you were cognizant of the fact I might not be able to float the credit for two purchase at once, I would assume you’re not stupid with money and just like to have a bit of fun with it now and again when you can. After a lifetime of incredible frugality and driving one car for 26 years, I like to spoil myself with the phones and occasionally the Apple Watch. iPads, well those I use until they fall apart.

I got the 256 GB Max. If I had to do it all over again I’d get the 512 and go ahead and endure the months worth of stink eye from my husband. We can afford it, but HE thinks it’s unnecessary and therefore stupid, so I didn’t. I definitely could fill all of that space but yes, I’d have to hold the phone for about 2 years to do so. I’m thinking I will want to upgrade next year if they add an even wider angle lens to the camera. I would love such a lens for my museum and art gallery trips where I have to work in a confined space to photograph a large exhibit in its entirety. That’s not really possible without wide angle lenses. Or I could go for a triple zoom like my husband has on his P20 Pro and get photos of birds and butterflies that I can’t get close to. I love camera improvements on these phones.

I am splurging on the gold stainless Apple Watch. My husband gets his free though work. And I’m getting some off of the cost via trade in of my old watch. So there’s that.

I’ve had the aluminum watches and I do generally prefer their value and light weight. But I have wanted a gold finish like this since the first time I saw an Apple Watch. Remember those outrageously priced original Edition watches? I innocently thought those were gold stainless steel when I first fell in love with them. You would have had to peel me off the ceiling when I found out crazy Jony or somebody had them made out of real gold and charged the price of an economy car for one.

I have a co-worker at work that's been trying to convince me that the PS4 Pro is a worth while update because things look better and load faster and I can't bring myself to spend the $200 or $300 (after trading in my current PlayStation 4) on that.... yet this phone.... damn you Apple!

I honestly don't see any place where you can "cancel". When tracking it in myChoice it shows the status, my address as where it's going to, and "hold for pickup" as the delivery change request. When you click "change delivery" a popup window opens with "pickup my package at a UPS location", "Deliver my package to another address", and "deliver my package on another day", and "cancel". The cancel button just cancels that window and returns you to the status page, which still shows the hold for pickup.

If you select "pickup my package at a UPS location" you get a list of all locations near your ship to address (my home) and are able to pick one. If you leave them all unselected and click "next" it gives you an error that you need to pick one. If you click back it returns you to the previous screen with the 3 options.

You can't select another address because "This option has been restricted due to the specific status or nature of your shipment. This option has been restricted by your shipper."

I can select another date, but nothing sooner then what it defaults to, just later date.

Again "cancel" just closes the window and takes you back to the status.

There is literally no way to cancel a hold request or pickup at UPS store request if you make it with myChoice (since apparently UPS employees have zero access to myChoice)

If you can change the location, choose a customer care center. And you will be able to pick it up Friday

Don't ever just pick a random UPS location. You have to choose a customer center. That's the location where the phone is gonna come through anyway so it can be held no problem.

I wasn’t picking a random UPS store, I was picking the one close to me that was open late. Ideally I wanted to get it after work without having to rush around. The customer care center is across town and closes at 6pm... sometimes traffic can be so bad around that time of day that it take ~45 minutes to get there. Which means I’ll probably duck out of work early so I’m not getting there the literal last second. Just wish I could cancel this option. Support again said the only possible way is if I do it online, no one in the UPS company has any power to help me. They then told me the steps to follow and of course the “cancel” option is still no where to be found. Not sure if their steps are wrong, if it needs to hit the next scan point (which like everyone else, I’m still showing in South Korea since Monday), or if something special with this shipment does not allow a can back to an address after selecting a UPS location.

ups sucks for Friday launch days. If you’re not at the door within five seconds of their truck pulling up, you’re not getting it until Monday afternoon at the earliest. Luckily I have a mouthy dog with great ears and an hatred for delivery drivers, he’ll alert me when that truck is within five blocks of my house.

I could be wrong, but I believe once the package has started to move that you can make changes to it and cancel the delivery to the ups store.
