Whatever you do, don't get one of those "build your own" types. Many people I know have had them put together with parts from all over the place because it generally works out a bit cheaper. In the long run it's not worth it, bits break, you end up having to replace everything and there's no warranty.

i disagree. you CAN save money by building yourself, and if you pay attention to what you are doing and buy the right parts, there's no problem in building yourself. i did it, and i have a great pc (if you can put those words in the same sentence) for around $800. which includes an amd 3800+ X2
