But, yes, there is now an app called "DoucheMeter," where you detect if someone's a douchebag or not! I would give you the link, but apparently Apple thinks it's more important to have a douchemeter app than cut and paste.

"Hmmm...I'm getting a pretty strong douche reading" LOL!

The text can be configured to display anything you want:

- Cool-meter
- Babe-meter
- Rad-o-meter


So it is a bit more useful. Although make sure the application is open before trying it as a Babe-o-meter as they might see what the application is called, although applications like this tend to have the opposite effect.

However, farts are more of an innocent elementary school type of humor that is universal for every living human. This app takes it to the next level and is not so innocent. If you heard an 8 year-old say "you farted. haha," you would laugh. But, if you heard an 8 year-old call another kid a "douchebag," it wouldn't be so humorous. Additionally, although the insult is not gender-specific, it references gender-specific hygiene. That, is no so nice. What's next; the c*nt-meter?

Where's KRAPPS? I'm sure he has an opinion about this one.

What does a third party app have to do with Apple not offering a desired feature on the iPhone? Sorry, the comment was kind of douchy.

Fine. Cross out "cut and paste," as this would not be a 3rd-party app, and insert "MMS", "turn-by-turn GPS", "video recording", or "Opera Mobile." These would all be third-party applications that have already been developed (and are sitting in the "approval process") that Apple could allow on the App Store before the DoucheMeter. So, what does your DoucheMeter say to that?

The phone has turn by turn GPS. It doesn't have real time turn-by-turn with spoken directs and automatic recalculations.

i for one would laugh my ass off if i heard an 8 year old call another 8 year old a douchebag...

in fact, i'm kind of laughing just thinking about it.
 
you know, i found imeter to be a bit silly too but it was fun in the end.

no practical use at all but fun for the whole family!

LOL somebody needs to visit an elementary school cafeteria and have a seat at any of the tables during lunch. You'll hear much worse than "douchebag." :D

By the way, speaking of 8 year olds, has anyone else noticed a growing number of little kids (as in 12 and under) who have their own iPhones?!?! :eek: Not even kidding...I was so deprived growing up. :rolleyes: :D
 
Wow, you guys don't mess around do ya? I only found out the app got approved this morning!

I'm the dude who developed it BTW.
It's just a joke app from when I was first messing around with the SDK way back in October, and I'm sorry if it's corrupting kids or anything kas23 :)

I feel a little bad about putting it on the store (cos frankly it's a pretty silly app); but I figure hey, I made it, might as well see if I can get any dollar for my time.

As far this app getting in the way of Cut 'n paste development time, it doesn't seem like Apple is really devoting too much time to approving apps. I submitted this one mid October, so that's about 3 months ago. I'd almost forgotten about it.


Anyone got any feature requests for the next version of DoucheMeter? :)

thats sad
enjoy life a little more instead of getting worked up over the appropriateness of an app title
(btw, id laugh at an 8 year old saying deuchebag. yes, its wrong and obviously bad parenting, but that doesnt make it not funny)

I'm a pediatrician who works in an innercity ER. I see everyday what bad parenting can lead to and although you may think this is funny, which it may be to some, bad behavior/no parental discipline is an awfully slippery slope. So, no, my sense of humor is not sad, but the lives ruined by loose parenting I see on a regular basis is sad. Would you also think an 8 year old singing gangsta rap lyrics is funny too? If so, you got to step away from computer and spend some time in the real world.

though i agree with what you said, i wouldn't pay for either the iFart apps or the DoucheMeter app. and i can't stand hearing little kids curse, mainly because in their eyes they might do it to be a little more grown up, though i am not saying adults swear to be tough or a badass or anything. i just can't think of a better way to explain why i don't like little kids using foul language.

It's just that kids are constantly testing the limits. If you let one thing go by (without the child feeling any ill effects) or are not consistent, you can guarantee that they will try to take it a little bit further next time. This is just the nature of childhood development. Don't blame them though as children likely don't know any better, blame the people (or person, as it is the case a lot) raising the children.

No, it's not. But if a kid is running around calling someone a douchebag and getting away with it, it's only a matter of time they're saying things worse and getting away with it.

And btw, I see kids imitating their parents' vulgar ringtones on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, I do find it amusing for a couple of seconds on a superficial level. However, reality hits when I spend the rest of the day seeing 14 and 15 year-olds pregnant and kids teenagers coming in high or shot. But, I live in a third-world city (Baltimore).

Nevertheless, for an adult, I find this app funny. But, any way you look at it, it's vulgar. And I surprised it made it onto the App Store given Apple's strict policies.

yep, when kids aren't told not to do something they shouldn't be doing, then they come content with doing it the next time, and once someone shuts them down it's like a real low blow, but they can't be the only one's blamed.

I very much appreciate your comments on this, kas23. As a parent of young children, it makes me sad that this is considered acceptable as humor to be made available publicly. However, the lyrics to much music available in iTunes is much worse. Parents just need to really think about what they want their kids exposed to before they allow them on iTunes...just like every other type of media.
