I downloaded this wonderful app today and was getting my podcasts all set up... But Radiolab isn't working properly. It seems to always download the same distorted file (Well, it plays normally for the first 10 or so seconds, then it's like the codec isn't working properly). I haven't seen this posted anywhere else, and I see this thread got bumped today so maybe someone has some input? I migrated from Stitcher radio, and their stream works fine. Any ideas as to the issue?

I cant comment on your specific issue, but I have noticed that some podcasts end prematurely. Not a biggy, just a bug, i think.
Have you tried the Radiolab app?

I'm seeing the same problem in iTunes and Apple's Podcasts app. I think there must be something wrong on RadioLab's end. Perhaps a bad encoding or corrupted files. Hopefully they'll resolve the problem soon.

I just tried listening to Radiolab in Downcast. Has the same issue. Now I'm listening to it in the RL app.

Just beginning work on iCloud syncing between the Mac and iOS versions. I *hope* to have a beta version ready for testing before Christmas!

I'm in. I've recommended Downcast for a while now and it's not let me down. My ultimate dream would be the Trifecta of Downcast .

iOS version - Check
Mac version - Stay Tuned
Apple TV version - Wishing

Ah been wishing for ages for a downcast app for mac os x. Sweet. Let me know if you need help testing this version out.

I'll put out a call for testers on Twitter and Facebook when ready. Thanks for the interest!

While the Apple TV version would be sweet, Airplay accomplishes that pretty well for me— for both video and audio.

Really looking forward to having this on OS X!!

Cheers!

Hey man, how can I turn off subtitles in video podcasts?

Currently, Downcast does not offer options for controlling the display of subtitles when playing videos. However, some apps (like GoodReader) offer this ability and their settings can affect Downcast.

In the example of GoodReader, if the the display of subtitles is set to "automatic", it can cause subtitles to be displayed in Downcast.

Please contact Downcast support if you have any further questions.

Thanks!

I wrote Downcast about this issue. I really like the app but i'm at my wit's end here.
Hello,

Ever since iOS7 came out, I believe, Downcast is CONSTANTLY losing focus on my iPhone. I always have to go back to the app and then the podcast and then hit play, rather than having it all ready when I swipe up or hit play on the lock screen. I'll see Downcast, but not the episode I was listening to. And this is when I haven't played any other media in between that I know of. Is there any way to make sure Downcast always has priority? Occasionally it will even go back to the iOS Music app, which I NEVER use on my phone, instead of Downcast. I don't get it. Help!!

-Brian

Downcast:

When Downcast is paused in the background for a period of time, iOS may terminate it to free resources for other apps. When this happens, Downcast cannot respond to commands from the lock screen or Control Center until it is re-opened. iOS 7 may terminate Downcast in the background more aggressively than previous versions of iOS, possibly because of support for Background App Refresh. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Seems like iOS behavior that will affect any background app. Perhaps Downcast could do a better job of remembering what you were playing, etc., but it appears the OS is shutting it down, as it will do to backgrounded operations after a time.

is this something that Apple could stop from happening?

Sure. But battery life considerations trump all. Background apps are terminated after a while, and that's that. RAM allocation also plays a role in doing this.

Am i going crazy? Previously there was a way to go back to the start of a podcast by pressing the back triangle on the player screen(left of the pause/play button). Now when i press it it takes me to the previous podcast. Is there some setting i am missing?
Its annoying because sometimes i just want to go back to listen to it again and it always takes me back to the previous podcast
