Yeah, you can downgrade.

However, downgrading will only work for a few days, while Apple continues signing 8.4.1.

1. Download the ipsw file from http://ipsw.me (select your device, and select and download the iOS 8.4.1 restore file).

2. Open iTunes (needs to be 12.2.2 or later, if not update), plug in your device, and select SHIFT + Restore iPhone to select the downloaded restore file. (Choose OPTION if on Mac.)

3. Your phone will be restored to factory settings which means all data will be lost, but you can restore from an iOS 8 backup on 8.4.1 again.

Cheers!

i'm using the australian model iPhone 5s A1530, do i download the gsm or global model?

Thanks, vertsix, for this terrific help! One typo: the correct key to use with the Restore iPhone button is OPTION not SHIFT (as has been fixed in the quote below).

I'm getting this going back from 9.1 to 8.4.1:

"Cannot restore backup because it's either corrupted or not compatible with this device".

Do you know why?

You need a backup that matches either the version of the OS you are running or an older version. Thus to restore a backup of iOS 8.4.1, you need a backup that isn’t newer than iOS 8.4.1, otherwise it will fail.

But I'd like to set up my iPhone as a new device..

That's what I'm doing! Can't figure this out. Gonna try one more time later. Thanks guys ;).

Downgrading is easy. And you can do it for a few more days.

So why believe all the negativity? Upgrade to 9, use it for 1-2 days and if you still believe you don't want it, go back to 8.4.1

But almost sure: you will not look back.

RiderX, I'm trying to get rid of that laggy system, it's really annoying and frustrating to use iOS9/iOS9.1, but I don't get it why I can't downgrade.

You know, I love Apple devices but I get tired of all the lag issues at the start of every release. I just wish for once I could install an OS version upgrade (not point release) without having to wait months for the lagginess to be resolved (if it ever is). I should have waited, I iPad Air 2 now feels like an iPad 3 on depressants. Slower than slow... :(

Very lag. walk to get very bad. Always many mistakes in the systems. nothing like the old days

Thanks,

Make sure you look through your folders correctly.

You can also download it directly from ipsw.me without issues.

Thanks,

The file you are trying to unzip is the IPSW file itself, unless you downloaded it from an untrustworthy site.
