The file you are trying to unzip is the IPSW file itself, unless you downloaded it from an untrustworthy site.

I was be able to download from my work computer as IPSW file instead of ZiP file and i got my 8.4.1 back on my phone.
Thanks everyone,

You know, I love Apple devices but I get tired of all the lag issues at the start of every release. I just wish for once I could install an OS version upgrade (not point release) without having to wait months for the lagginess to be resolved (if it ever is). I should have waited, I iPad Air 2 now feels like an iPad 3 on depressants. Slower than slow... :(

I noticed no lag difference on my two iPhone 6 phones, iPad Air 2 and iPad Air 1 and iPad 3. Just because you have lag doesn't mean necessarily everyone has lag. Do you have anything stuck running in the background?

After trying iOS 9 for past couple weeks and iOS 9.1 beta 2 the past day, I finally gave in a rolled back to 8.4.1 on my iphone 6. It feels like a new phone again.

I envy you Act3. I was talking to my financial advisor's office manager just now and she agreed with me about the crappy battery life and like me wishing she'd stayed with 8.4.1.

Funny feeling really... you even start getting used to the lag, then once you go back it's awesome.

Hello, i need help with downgrade.

I own an iphone 5.

I downloaded from ipsw.me my firmware, put my iphone in DFU while connected to my laptop, pressed Restore iphone while holding alt option key, selected the firmware. itunes say the software is not compatible.
I tried both with Global and GSM version, not working.
can someone help before apple stop signing 8.4.1? AFAIK, they shouldnt have already stopped signing it.

I didn't have to use DFU mode. Just connected phone, shift-clicked Restore (on Windows), and select IPSW.

Just rolled my iPad back, they are still signing 8.4.1. My iPhone 6 went back earlier today.

I'm on iOS 9.1 b2 & I want to downgrade to iOS 8.4.1 but don't have an iOS 8.4.1 backup on iCloud. How can I restore on iTunes By clicking check for updates? Is it gonna mess my phone up, apps missing? Anybody tried this & it went fine?

"nothing like the old days"

If you go back and browse a bit the same complaints have been around since at least version 4 betas.

Personally I have found iOS 9 GM (and OTA public version) to be about the best initial version update so far.

So i managed to downgrade. but for some reason iTunes did NOT keep my iphone 8.4.1 backup, and overwrote it with my fresh iOS 9 one. So i could either go back and have a backup of 4 months ago, or stick to iOS 9. jeez.

Well yeah, it's an iPhone 6. Any device is much smoother with its original OS. My touch 5G still is on iOS 6 and I would never consider updating. Same with my iPad 4. iPhone 6+ is with 8.4.

Performance and having a jailbreak always beats having the latest and greatest.

You can manually edit that backup so it will restore on iOS 8.4.1.

This is an old post but it should work in the same way.

I would usually agree on that but Apple mentioned performance improvements with iOS 9 at the keynote. The only performance improvement I got was from rolling back to iOS 8.4.1, its a joy on the iphone 6 compared to what iOS 9.0.1 or 9.1 beta 2 was.

I don't buy their marketing hype.

They just want you to upgrade and/or buy new hardware.

El Capitan, though, what a fantastic OS. Yosemite was dreadful so that was huge.

So why don't you go back to 8.4.1 while you still can? Several posts from you indicate you wish you were on 8.4.1. No reason to stay on 9 if you dislike it so much and have the option to roll back.

I like how we're all seeking refuge from iOS 9. I will probably go back to iOS 9 after they clean it up. Didn't expect the release to act like a beta out of the gate, but then again iOS 8 did as well.

Yep.

Once Apple fix all the lag and actually do what they promised (better interface performance), then I'll definitely upgrade to iOS 9.

But for now, I'm enjoying the smoothness of 8.4.1 waaaaay too much.

Tested the iPhone 6S in an Apple Store today.

Control Centre lag is still there - must be a bug...

Seemed a little stuttery too in menus / swiping
