Absinthe isn't legal here in the UK either, but I have lashings of it when I go to snowboarding in Switzerland in the summer and mountain biking in the summer. It's lovely stuff.

Sort of legal. You can only have so much of it. My cousins pub stocks it and yea, I thought it was illegal too. Then he explained. Horrible luminous stuff, though the part of me that likes Panda Pops wants to try it.

Hot chocolate.
My girlfriend keep on telling me that there is no alcohol inside... so why is it that i keep feeling so weird after the 3rd liter?

bozigle

i want some of that hot chocolate!! lol, we are having hot chocolate and egg nog at work ... i wonder if they have an alcohol version of these available *thinks about this*

Ohhh, I wasn't aware of that, might have to bring some back next time I go to Switzerland. I've never tried the coloured ones, only the clear/slightly cloudy variety :)

Quick question, off topic, how come you adopt the xUsernamex and your myspace pae is xxxusernamexxx. This is typically done by someone, myself included, who is straight edge.

Yeah, I've had people tell me this many of times, I just put the X's there because if I just try 'Julian' as a username, it's always taken and I don't like the idea of numbers so I just whack an 'X' in at the start and finish.

I'm not straight edge, I have a few friends that are, but they aren't even legally allowed to drink so I don't really get it but meh.

I take it 'xUKHCx' stands for UK hardcore? Are you straight edge because of the 'X's' in your username?

Sorry just re-read your post and you already stated that you were straightedge. My bad. :)

Well the other way around i put the X's there because i am straight edge,.

I am 22 and did the whole scene of drink and drugs before i made the choice. I do not push it on anyone, i made the decision to be straight edge so i think it is fair that people make the decision to not be straight edge.

Yeah I just saw it, shame they only post within the US, looks like a fun thing to do.

My housemate ordered a kit from Austria and had no problem getting postage to the UK, will try and track down the order

Well said, too often I see people getting tattoo's advertising the fact they are straight edge. I really don't understand, I wouldn't have tattoo's saying that I'm agnostic would I?

At the end of the day, you drink or don't drink, leave it at that. I have huge respect for people that choose to not drink, especially with how the media and peer pressure can easily suck people in, theres just no excuse for advertising it as if you get extra 'cool' points.

Oh Yeh baby. Im gonna be getting me some of that.

Is it any good?

It's pretty good. My girlfreind experienced slight color saturation, but it was brief. If you like black liquorice, you may like it. What happens is that you buy 1 Liter of Everclear and 1 Liter of Vodka. You mix the two and steep a bag of the ingredients for a week. You filter that and add another bag for a few days. We may have overdone the first bag, because ours came out a muddy green, almost brown. Even with sugar added, it was a yellowish color. That said, our First Annual Absinthe Slumber Party was a success. For our second party, we may try another brand. I think we may still have some of the Green Devil...

I like darker beers (brown ales, stouts, porters), margaritas, red wine, strong coffee, root beer and, of course, good old water.

This is 99.765423347% of my beverage consumption.

The X tattoos originate from the fact that under-18s (21s?) in the US (Washington DC particularly, I think) had Xs marked on their hands at all-ages punk shows to mark the fact (for bar staff) that they weren't entitled to buy alcohol. That's how it got picked up by the straight edge movement - with people marking themselves to say I don't want alcohol. In that context it makes more sense that someone marking themselves as an atheist, as the symbol was already in use, but was taken on in a sort of act of inversion.

xUKHCx - do you post on the Collective Zine forum? It may be of interest to you.

The Punk & Ska Dictionary said:
Straight Edge - This means no drugs, no drinking, no smoking, and no casual sex. Also abbreviated as sXe. This word came from Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat and is also the title of a Minor Threat song. The symbol for Straight Edge is "X", which came from a X being marked on minors hands in at shows, telling the clubs that this person is a minor so they can't order alcohol.
More like xMummy's boysx? :D

Fair enough. Does this pass?

I think I'm straightedge. don't drink, saving myself for marriage (out of personal respect, no religion involved). But thats a little misrepresentative, I do some very dangerous activities, blah de blah. but I have been back drinking Kava for the last week or so :) lovely stuff. if slightly rancid tasting, but hell under the influence of Kava I steamed ahead with my numerous coursework projects!

Anywho! Checked my cousins pub this morning - indeed it is woodworm/woodwhatever Absinthe. Warning says "do not drink neat". Huge bottle too.
