Dropbox for iPad Released

One step closer to being able to fully use this iPad seamlessly as a business device. All I need now is for Office HD to allow you to use the Dropbox servers, and then I can start, edit, save, transfer Word and Excel files back and forth, keep them in sync without multiple steps

almost there... come on... you can do it
 
It's now official: my iPhone is the left side of my brain and my iPad is my right side.
 
Maybe I am just whining because I'll need to email the files back to myself in order to get it back in sync, but it just isn't something that is difficult to setup, so I can only think that apple does not want you to do this. I'm sure they do not want to eat into the laptop side of the business
 
I really like dropbox, the integration is fantastic. Tried the other top competitors and it's by far my favorite across all platforms.
 
Nice. Was waiting for this update. Goodreader has been working so far though.

I wish MobileMe had an iPad version.

I use drop box for school and MobileMe for personal use. Works great on iPad with good reader but rather use official apps.

I find the drop box experience a little better than idisk. Also, the iWork apps for the iPad will not allow you to open files from iDisk, and will not let you save back to the iDisk, pretty much rendering iDisk useless

Yes really you do. MM is limited to a certain amount of GB per account (unless you want to pay even more for mediocre service) and DB is also limited to the amount of GB per account (unless you pay for more).

You could very well use both.

Others have already taken a stab at answering this, but dropbox really blows away the iDisk. The only real advantage of iDisk at this point is that it can be up to 20 gb without paying more, while dropbox is 2-3 gb (depending on bonus space). However, dropbox just syncs so much better - syncing is the problem that makes idisk so unreliable. And this is coming from someone who pays for MobileMe anyway, so i really wanted idisk to work. Maybe someday.

One other note on this updated dropbox app. GoodReader has been one of my favorite ipad apps, but the updated dropbox just bumped GR off my front page of apps. With this, I don't have to bother downloading files stored on dropbox, which saves a ton of time. The cool feature of GR to allow the GR file space to show up in Finder via Wifi is now moot, since I can just move files to dropbox instead and see them on the iPad. GR still has some advantages, mainly the ability to view a file directly from email, but i can't see myself using it much anymore.

Does iWork on the iPad allow you to open iWork files from Dropbox right now? I still have not found a decent way to work with spreadsheets between my Mac and my iPad.

iWork apps basically will not let you open from anything other than transferring the file from iwork.com (beta) or from itunes. It's not a very good situation at the moment, that's why I am wanting drop box integration into office HD. Then you will be able to open documents, edit them and then save them.. (you know, normal stuff that people will actually want to do)

It's possible that when apple releases iDisk for the ipad that this will open up a little, but they never opened it up much for the iphone, so I am less than optimistic

iWork is barely a demo at this stage with the limited abilities to transfer and print files.
 
So right now, i can upload pictures to the dropbox server but all the files that I have downloaded like excel document or word document, i can't upload to the dropbox server from my Ipad.

This pretty much makes dropbox a reader and that make it pretty pointless to me. That's what goodreader is for and not to mention evernote.

I want to be able to edit documents.
 
Seems somewhat pointless since I have Goodreader, but I guess it won't hurt to download.

For those who don't know. Goodreader + Dropbox = AWESOME!

This is annoying to me. Making this right would go a long way toward solving most of my ipad issues...
