Hate to say it but this sounds almost exactly the same as my experience in Arlington. I've had 2 dropped calls already today and average around 5 or so a week. I love the iphone features but as a phone (I can only speak for me) it is a gigantic fail.

Same here. I currently live in Clarendon and get pretty frequent dropped calls. I'm going to try the Edge thing while at home from now on since I go off WiFi for internet usage anyways.

That's weird, I never get dropped calls here in L.A. I remember with my old SE phone sometimes it would drop the call 5-6 times in an hour with someone. With the iphone I've had many 2-3 hour long conversations without a hiccup. The only thing I wish was better was the speakerphone, and I know it's not the speaker, as it plays music and certain games loud as hell, but when in calls it's really muted even with the sound up all the way.

My girlfriend lives in Philly, and I live right outside Philly, and we both equally have a decent amount of dropped calls. She's had a quite a few calls that failed for her as well. But she had no service, and I simply had her hard reset the phone. But it's quite bothersome, especially when her and I are talking on the phone, and we sporadically drop each other's call, and have to call one another back at least 2-3 times.

I would expect this if I lived in a rural area. However, I live literally 10 minutes from a major city. It's really annoying.

For all you guys having dropped calls, I can attest that it's definitely not the Iphone. I got the 3GS like everybody else on AT&T when they first came out. Dropped calls left and right. I couldn't actually hold a phone conversation. Took it back and got a jailbroken 3GS on T-Mobile, and now I'm living lovely.

So if you're really having problems with dropped calls and call quality but like the Iphone itself, I would suggest unlocking it and going to T-Mobile:)

I live in Clarendon as well and work in Ballston. I assumed that the dropped calls was the result of the DIA building next door but the infrequent nature of the dropped calls has caused me to dismiss that as the main reason.

time related

interestingly I notice my calls drop right around the ten minute mark or shortly thereafter, even if I have full bars. Apple suggested that I get the phone reprovisioned which was no help. Now they're sending me over to ATT for a new SIM.

Even more interesting is that I didn't have this problem until they replaced my iphone with a refurb in July.

I've found here in the Denver area the only way for me to not drop a call is to not make any while moving.

I've had an iPhone from day one. 1,2, and now 3rd gen and the last 3-5 months have been rubbish. I drive the same routes to and from work and from home to common places and not one of these routes will allow me to make and finish a call with a failure.

AT&T has turned to crap and gets worse every day. Take your phone to an apple store and they will be able to tell how many calls your phone dropped, mine had 18 in one week.

The 25th better bring some sort of fix cause this is getting old real quick. I didn't buy a 3Gs to not use the 3G part of it.
