Dropped Macbook Air M1

week after M5 Amazon prime sale, right after Apple's price increase....

naturally dropped my M1 MacBook Air which now has a rainbow of screen lines every which way

cost to fix = not worth replacing

impeccable timing, eh?

on upside, forum here brings back great memories - who remembers when we tracked our iPhones on flights out of China? lol

would be grateful if have any suggestions or if possible, where could get new Macbook M5, any size screen, configuration or color for low price?

lowest saw was $1099 + tax for Macbook Air 13 inch M5 basic, on Apple edu store via Unidays

Honestly, unless you ‘need’ the niceties of the Air, I’d look into a Neo. In my home we have an m4 mini, m4 air, Neo, and MBP M5 Max. Guess what gets used almost exclusively? The Neo. It’s really that great of a do it all laptop and the price is still very attractive

Don’t forget to check the Apple refurbished store. Availability of specific machines varies constantly, so you have to keep checking until you see what you want.

Please describe how you use (or used) your M1 Air. Things have changed since you got that device.

Without details of what you're doing, or plan to do, with the replacement, all anyone can offer is vague suggestions. For example, the point of whether you use (or intend to use) AI features (or not use them) will affect the choice of features. The size and nature of documents you create is another factor.

Also, if you have any must-have's, please list them. For example, one feature that comes up regularly with Neo purchasers is the lack of a backlit keyboard. Connecting large numbers of USB peripherals might be another.

depending which country you’re in, usually there are 60 days to add AppleCare+. You can add it from another device, such as an iPhone, as long as you signed in with the same Apple Account. (If you didn’t, you can connect a monitor to it.)

After adding it, you need to wait 1 calendar day, then you can file a claim. Either call in, chat, or go to an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider. You pay the deductible and the computer is fully repaired.

sorry for late response, really appreciate everyone trying to help!

ended up with EDU discount, $1199 + tax + $100 gift card

13 inch, M5, went for sky blue, basic configuration

every color is backordered, August 26th!

shipping had chance of earlier so went for that not pick up

bought M1 when first out, 2020, still worked great until drop day - timing terrible, few days after prime day + price increase
