Agreed - I started out with a backpack that carried every single piece of gear I owned. I even started lugging all my lenses around with me (all 3 of them I had at the time). As I progressed, I realized I didn't need this piece here, and I didnt' need that piece there, and I don't change lenses out all that often & when I do, I tend to stay within this range ....

And then I took a trip, and needed the laptop along.

I kept paring down my bag. I actually went from larger to smaller, and change out what gets tossed in the bag, rather than carting everything around. For travelling, I find I prefer two separate bags - one for the laptop, and one I can easily carry around places.

Again, different needs for different people :)
